I was working with a divx file to start with. Is it possible to retain the extremely high quality in divx in the m1v file which tmpgenc creates? Even with a CQ 100, one cannot get the same quality using a 352 x 240 kvcd template. And using a higher resloution template essentially results in little or no compression. How can you compress without compromising quality??????

Not sure that the m1v is upside down. Is it correct during encoding, in the tmpgenc preview ? If it is, then the m1v is correct too,and the problem is with the player you use to play it back.

How many minutes of DIVX or XVid quality video can the KVCD template give me on a single CD-R??

thanks..for the guide..i just made my first kvcd & its work successfully...it took me almost 10 hours to understand the step for making kvcd but its worth then nothing.......thank you again...

With KVCD you can put a single movie on a CD-R, the same way as you do with Divx, except that the disc will be readable on more standalones than a Divx (not all players nevertheless).

This is when you start with the original DVD.

BUT... NOTHING can allow you to encode a MPEG4 to MPEG2 keeping the same quality in the same place.

That is the reason of the : NO DISCUSSION about Divx. No need to ask more about this. (understand I will remove all the next questions, as specified in the disclamer of this forulm section).

What about the upside down m1v?
Are you still experiencing this problem in your encode?
I have recently seen this same problem myself.
I was explaining the basics of KDVD to a friend of mine when I saw the video coming out in an upside down encoded m2v (MPEG2 instead of your MPEG1).
I tried to narrow the problem down until I only had a few tools installed.
One of them was FFDShow.
Uninstalled it and suddenly avisynth started frame serving black video only with a red error message.
That's when I noticed XviD was not installed.
Yep, XviD, the codec that we all agreed not to speak of.
But that's the one we use to decode YV12! :)
I installed latest Koepi's XviD binaries (1.1.2 I think) and suddenly all problems disappeared.
So give it a try and see if you have FFDShow installed.
