KVCD: Optimizing Tmpgenc for speed?

Is there such a thing? Does anyone have a method or recommendation for this? My copy of Tempgenc is pretty much running on all default settings (except the template, of course). My pc is an Athlon 950 w/ 256mb of ram and WinXP, so it's a little long in the tooth. Any advice would be appreciated.

what system you are using my friend Reno?
XP, ME, 98se...?
:)
<EDIT>
hey, i'm stup you wrote that use XP!
sorry!
:imstupid:

Reno, better is more memory and if is possible, another faster CPU!

More ram will help. I have 512 and TMPGEnc gobbles up 200 or so when encoding. I'm sure on your machine it isn't getting as much as it wants.

Or get a PowerPC Dual G5 CPU ~2Ghz, and encode at ~100FPS 8O
Those are the benchmarks that were released several days ago on the net. Yes, ~100 frames per second :!:
Sweeeeeeettt
I want one of those :P

kwag how do they measure FPS? I have a fast computer and would like to compare my speed against their benchmarks.

Its a PC vs. Mac thing you know :D :D

A friend told me about that benchmark. I'm trying to find it, so I can post it. Supposedly, the new G5, at 5Ghz, is faster than a P4 @3Ghz :!:
Here's some data: http://www.apple.com/powermac/performance/

This is so typical for us. I start a thread about tuning Tempgenc, Jorel asks and answers his own question, I get recommendations varying from 'get more RAM!' 'to buy a faster PC/MoBo!,' Kwag drops this bombshell on all our laps about the frikkin ultimate video editing machine, and now we're so OT I'm surfing the web looking at Macs!!! LOL

Oh, by the way, does anyone have an answer to the original question? That doesn't require me to go to Pricewatch.com and spend money?

Hi Reno

Well, you can send TMPEG to the tray while encoding, which is the same as if you set the preview option to "Do not display" frames.
This will make it a little faster. Other than that, more RAM or a faster CPU are the only options.
( Or a 2Ghz Dual G5  ) :hihi:

(also offtopic)

Well, I'm working with max since 8 Years... but Aqua is one of the best designed user interfaces I've ever seen. And not mention the new system architecture! It rocks!

Well, If you use a PC you are in the funny position to update your machine at "low cost" in comparision to an apple.

So think about to get a new CPU ... for example a cheap 1700 or 1800 Tbred DLT3C for about 70Euros! which is able to run at min. 2200mhz (cold enough @ 1,6vcore) ;-) .
Maybe you need a new Motherboard, but also here you can by cheap models ... and if you still need more RAM, dont spend money in those who fit into your Athlon 950 Board. Then the best way is to buy a double set of TwinMos PC400 (80 Euros) and a Nforce2 Mainboard (90 Euros) like the Abit NF7s.

70+80+90= 240 Euros (ca. 240 Dollars) to get a real performance advantage.

Im saying this that PC in comparision to MAC is very cheap to update ... ok it looks less cool refered to its design, and it won't reach the performance of the new models ... but .... you can still use TMPGenc and its options ;-)

I do love!! MAC and I work with both (at business and privately).

So in my case I cured the TMPGEnc Speed-Problem by spending 280 Euros, and now it rocks ;-) ... shurely faster than my G4 MAC.
