TMPGEnc: Another audio sync problem using kdvd template
After ripping a 2hr29min movie with smartripper then using dvd2avi for the .d2v and .wav files. Then encoded with tmpgenc using kdvd template. After 14hrs the resulting .mpg file (3+ gig) had the audio becoming progressively out of sync by aprrox 1 sec which didnt get really bad till the end. Actually the audio ended up leading the video. I rechecked my dvd2avi parameters to match kwags recommended .So I re-encoded
the .d2v and .wav files again. Ended up with same problem. Anybody have any ideas? Am I using any wrong settings? Anything else I should check for? By the way the video and audio using the kdvd template is great. Now only if I could get them in sync. Thanks Blayzslayr |

Thanks for the reply. My system is: 900 Athlon
512 ram 80 gig HD Pioneer 104 DVD R/RW Software is: Win2000pro PowerDVD Ulead DVD Workshop DVD2AVI 1.85 TMPGEnc 2.54 Smartripper 2.41 The audio sync problem is present in the final TMPGenc encoded mpeg file. I played the ripped .vob files with PowerDVD and there are no problems there. Ran those vobs through DVD2AVI and got an AC3 2 CH wav file and and d2v file. Loaded those into TMPGEnc with the KDVD template and encoded to mpeg. This 3gig file has the audio getting progressively out of sync as the file plays through. The sync problem has the audio leading the video. This is a great template for reducing the 2hr+ movie to a 3+ gig file size. I must be using some bad settings somewhere. Just dont have any idea where to look. Blayzslayr |
blayzslayr,
Are you loading your template as the LAST step? Because if you are loading the template, and then loading your video and audio source, some template parameters will be overwritten. If you loaded the audio last, you're probably encoding 384Kbps at 48Khz!. Also if you're doing an NTSC movie, it's probably FILM, so you had to use "Force FILM" in DVD2AVI. If you didn't, when you open the .d2v in TMPEG, you're encoding at 29.97 instead of 23.976. And that's why your file is so large. kwag |
Thanks for the ideas. I did use forced film and checked the d2v file in notepad and it shows frame rate 23.975. As far as loading template last I cant remember but that is what I will do now and re-encode. I will let you know later how it goes. Thanks again.

I have finally been able to encode the mpeg file with the audio in sync. It seems the problem was with the version of DVD2AVI I was using. I downloaded a different version and re-encoded with the KDVD template. Worked like a charm. Burned the movie to DVD, it looks and sounds great.
Thanks for all the work on the template Kwag. Blayzslayr |
That's great Blayzslayr!
You might want to consider "demuxing" the audio instead of "decoding" it DVD2AVI. This way you extract (demux) the AC3 audio, and then you use "headac3he" program to encode your audio with full Dolby Surround. You'll never go back to encoding audio with TMPEG  kwag |
