FullScreen and WideScreen on same DVD - how do you know which one to Rip?
 

Not sure if this question should go here but....When you have a single sided DVD that has both Widescreen & Full Screen how do you know which one to Rip? If I want to Rip the Full Screen how can I be sure I get the FS? When I open in DVDDecrypter I see two listings in time for both formats. Suggestion and help is appriciated.

It's indicated on the Disc itself ! Look carrefully at the small characters near the center of the disc. (Or on the cover of the DVD)

well for starters to my knowledge if its a one disc dvd and has two versions of the film then it aint one sided, like Dialhot if u look in the middle of the disc it should say side a: widescreen side b: fullscreen or vice versa.

My suggestion: Open your movie with DVD Shrink. There, you can "see" in the preview window exactly what you have selected. Then why use another ripper :?:
Just select your movie in "uncompressed" mode, and click on "Backup"
This will effectively rip your movie, just like with DVDDecrypter or Smart Ripper :)

Thanks....but it is a one sided DVD...when I start it up in my player...on the main menu it will show two selections..on the left it will say Wideseceen and on the right it will say Full Screen...in DVD Decrypter in the PCG mode it will show two times for the same film...and I supect one is WS and the other is FS...but I will try the method Kwag suggested. thanks for all the responses....

Oh, okay. So they are two separate titles on the DVD and you can see the number of the title for each movie on the display of your standalone player.
Then select this title under your ripping tool.

Thanks for all suggestions on this, did a little experimenting, it appears that the number 1 (First listing) is the Widescreen and number 2 is for Fullscreen when viewed in the PGC mode of DVD Decrypter. Not sure if this would apply to all DVD that give you a choice of WS or FS on a Single Sided DVD. thanks again to all who provide suggestions.

Anyone know how much of quality loss there is if you try to put 2 movies on a disk using DVD Shrink...and also if they should be in seperate folders,and if players can open and read them.

In my experience, quality loss depends on the length of the movie, which is in direct proportion to the transcoding %, meaning the longer the film, the more you need to shrink it and the lesser quality of film. It also depends on what you expect out of it. In my case, I would not transcode more than 4 hours into one disc, but here again, if the input is super clean, then you may get away with 5 hours of movie in one dvd. The new version of dvdshrink will allow you to compile several films into one dvd.

If you wish, you can also shrink films individually and placing them in different folders, or you can shrink them in one folder as well. Power dvd should be able to read them with no problems.

Can I be told that how to use DVD Shrink to complie more than one film please!

Well, if you had an option, would you go for the KVCD 704x480 template,or encode with DVD squeeze, for multiple movies?
