Simple codec for viewing .WMV inside vdub and other apps ?

Hi guys :lol:

I have a question on the .WMV file format and opening them in other apps.

I've ben trying to open some of these up that I've D/L'ed over time during
my surfing days. These are mostly stuff I (samples) I D/L'ed from doom9
that I wanted to see, but that I coudn't because my version of media player
will not open them. I've tried going to :eyebrows: M$ :eyebrows: 's site, but there too confusing as
to which one to D/L and they are T 8O 8O big and not worth the effort if I
can just open them up for viewing. I don't need all the bells and whistels
that come w/ latest media players etc. Anyways..

I tried opening an .wmv file inside vdub, but instead, I got an warning
message that it was an .ASF 8O file, and was telling me that it was not gonna
let me in :banghead: due to :eyebrows: M$ :eyebrows: 's US Patent :grrr: and :bawl: and :confused: !!

If anything, I'll even try viewing inside TMPG.. hmm....

I thought WMV are also called "MPEG Video V3". I have this codec on my PC and you should find it in various codec pack (I use ACE but you can surely find it elsewere).

Try to see there :

Thanks DialHot..

You beat me to a link.. anyways..

In addition, I found a few more codec packs to add to the list:

* wmpcdcs8.exe
Quote:

This utility installs the following Windows Media Codecs: WM Video versions 7 and 8, WM Audio (all versions), WM Screen version 7, and other legacy codecs. It is designed to enable network administrators to deploy these codecs within their network. This utility includes a GUI that guides administrators through the setup process. For a silent installation, administrators can use /q:a and /r:n.

Requirements: Windows Media Player 6.4 or higher
Or this one:

Windows Media Player 9 Codecs Pack:
* WM9Codecs.exe

I'll bookmark that link you posted though, cause it looks like a good one :wink:
