For those of us with intermittent TMPGEnc problems
Baldrick has a list of some common tsunami problems..

Just wondering... most of those tips suggest to raise the priority of DirectShow Multimedia File Reader to 1 or 2, making it at the top of the VFAPI plug-ins. But on another sticky in this forum, sansgrip has suggested that readavs be the ONLY vfapi plugin used. So what gives? Will it help us or hurt us to turn on DirectShow Multimedia File Reader?

I'd suggest using ReadAVS.dll ONLY :!:
Not DirectShow. That's probably why they have so many problems  -kwag |
DirectShow Plugin
I had the problem that a divx avi file was shown 159 minutes long in TMPGEnc (202% of a 700mb video cd) - but in fact it was only 72 minutes.
After raising the DirectShow plugin priority to the top TMPGEnc showed the correct movie length. |
Apparantly TMPGenc has difficulty with xvid encodes unless directshow is prioritized.

Maybe the correct thing is to forget about xvid encodes entirely, and stick with what the pro's say.
