DVD2SVCD: Problem converting to PAL-KVCD

Hi,

I have been experimenting with PAL (S)KVCD's, and i cant seem to convert properly. I am doing a divx/xvid 2 KVCD-PAL, and when played back on my DVD player, i get constant freezes throughout the whole of the film. Also the picture quality comes out very dark.

BUT...when i do an NTSC-KVCD it is perfect! no freezes!

Any idea's on this please?

thx

Idiot question but : is your player PAL compliant ? And your TV set (these dark colors are weird) ? Where do you live ?

BTW, there is really no need to convert to PAL if your material can handle NTSC. It even a very bad idea if your video is a film (23.97 fps).

NTSC = 480*480 23.97fps
PAL = 480*576 25 fps. So it need MUCH MORE space for the video.

In other words : for the same movie, your CQ will be a lot bigger (sometimes by 10 points) in NTSC than in PAL.

Now, if your video is in 29.97 fps and not 23.97, OK, encoding in PAL is a good thing.

I always keep the original FPS. The movie i am encoding came as PAL. I never change FPS in other words.

How, sorry, I have understood that you tried to convert a NTSC movie in PAL.

And all your problems occur only on the standalone DVD player but the result is correct on your PC, that's right ?

Everything seems ok on PC, and it looks like it may be the DVD player, but like i said, NTSC's play fine.

I have checked settings on DVD player also, there ok.

It just seems that PAL divx/xvid struggle to play after converting.

thx
