KVCD: with the 704x480 template, the sound keep skipping every 3 or 5 seconds?
 

Please, I need some help here...

My DVD player plays fine the 320x240 templates, but I can't use this resolution since I saw the amazing quality of 704x480!!!
So, here is my problem… when I encode with the 704x480 template, the sound keep skipping every 3 or 5 seconds. I tried to increase the CQ to 500, 700 and 900 (with the old template) but it didn't work. The new template gives me the same problem.

When I tried to encode as SVCD or to re-mux with BBMPG as SVCD, the sound gets out perfectly, but now is the video that seems to skip some frames (or fast forwards some frames) every 3 or 5 seconds. What else can I do? :roll:

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

exact same status/issue with my APEX AD-660 and NO SOLUTION found yet.

This what i did for my Apex 1500:

I basically

1. ripped the movie
2. Set it up with DVD2AVI
3. Used FitCD

Then what i did with Tmpgenc was change the movie setting to PAL resolutions... I changed the 704x480 to 704x576.. but i kept the 23 fps the same.. and i changed the aspect ratio to PAL as well... This made my movie playback with out any audio or video jumps.
You have to make sure that you set the aspect ratio to PAL... the screen will be a letterbox. The other thing is that when you play it back in your DVD player make sure beforehand that your DVD player can select either PAL or NTSC. The Apex 1500 has this ability.... When i burnt it with Nero I left it as a normal NTSC CD as well... I think my DVD player basis its PAL/NTSC selection based on resolution.

what i meant to say was if you dont select PAL as your aspect ratio your screen will be a letterbox :) sorry

I had a similiar problem on my Pioneer dv-733a and I fixed it by encoding the file with the tmpgenc system tab set to video cd and not video cd non standard ,But this only works for the 704/480 2kvcd and not for the 352/240.I have also checked the burnt cd on bit rate viewer to see if tmpge encoded it as cbr ,It hasnt.You could also remux it with tmpgenc by using simple multiplex without demuxing amd selecting video cd instead of nonstandard video cd.

I just left all the defaults on FitCD... Now if you want.. maybe you could experiment and do some short samples and see what happens if you check PAL in FitCD.. I think that FitCD picks what rez it is by looking at it anyways... But maybe its worth a shot :)

You are completely right TKS!! :D

If you change the 704x480 to 704x576, the movie playback without any audio or video jumps!! I notice that you don’t have to change anything else. In fact, I tried to encode at 704x488 (the next possible vertical resolution) to keep the file size small… the movie and sound played smoothly! But I got a strange black bar splitting the movie in 2 and a trash line in the bottom of the screen. I don’t know if is impossible to encode at this resolution, or I just have made something wrong…

I’m also having some problems to make it play with the correct aspect ratio. No matter if I select PAL on DVD and/or TV, I always get the movie squeezed out vertically. So I have to compensate it in AVS and increase the vertical resolution. This is a big problem, because PAL makes a bigger file size, and if you increase the vertical resolution (and remove some black bars) the file size will increase drastically.

For an example, I was using this resize for 704x480:
BilinearResize(704,360,0,0,720,480)
AddBorders(0,60,0,60)

To keep the same aspect ratio at 704x576 I have to use this:
BilinearResize(704,480,0,0,720,480)
AddBorders(0,48,0,48 )

Making TMPG encode 480 instead 360 (and removing 24 lines of borders) will make a huge difference in file size. And no way to fit a 120min in 2 CDS… :( :evil:


PS: I tried to set aspect ratio in TMPG as PAL and NTSC… both gives me the same aspect ratio results when played in my DVD player. :roll:

Oh, man... I just figured out that I can encode KVCD 704x480 as SVCD. I was forgetting to check the 3:2 pulldown option. :?
The Re-Mux as SVCD with BBmpg really doesn't work.
I can (as I saw in another post) set the frame rate to 29.97 and the movie will playback fine too!

My DVD player is a CCE-2500 but I think it's behaving just like some of the APEX-1500 that I saw at this forum...

Well thanks a lot for the help, but now I got another dilemma:
Is it worthy to encode as SVCD? Or should I live with the bigger file size that mpeg1 29.97fps gives me?

I have a 145min movie that won't fit in 2CDs if I encode at 29.97fps.
Should I stay in mpeg1 and lower the quality (bit rate) in order to fit the movie in 2CDs, or should I go to SVCD and raise the bit rate a little?

Please scientists of the encoding… I need your wisdom once more! :lol:

Here are some numbers I got from a 20sec sample (with sound):
704x480_kvcd-default.mpg -----> 4.249kb (doesn't work)
704x480_kvcd-2997fps.mpg ----> 4.844kb
704x480_svcd-pulldown.mpg ---> 4.263kb (just SVCD, all other settings are default KVCD)
480x480_svcd-pulldown.mpg ---> 3.348kb (same as above, but 480x480)

What sould I do? :roll: :?: :roll:

the "704x480_svcd-pulldown" comlete encode (just video) gets out at 1.518.182kb

what movie are you encoding. I am having the same video jump problems with the movie American Pie 2 an Not another Teen Movie. I encoded them with mpeg-2 instead of mpeg1 so I could select 3:2 Pulldown when playback and that solved the plroblem with the exception of aboput 5 times throughout the movie. This was with the old template, easily fit on 2 cds, and I personally couldnt really tell the difference from the dvd except for the point where I had to switch discs.

I’m trying to encoding Artificial Intelligence (145min). I can encode as mpeg1 with 29.97fps, or mpeg2 with 3:2 pulldown. I prefer the quality of mpeg1 740x480, compared with mpeg2 with the same bit rate settings. But I think it won't fit with 29.97fps :?

Did you encode (mpeg2) at 740x480 or 480x480? What were your settings for the encode as mpeg2? Did you change any other settings from the kvcd template?

the only thing that I changed in the KVCD template was encoding as mpeg-2 and not mpeg-1 and then I selected 3:2 pulldown when playback. This is the only way that I have gotten movies to work. I dont believe that there is much difference in filesize and the quality is amazing.
