VirtualDub: Cannot rip Wav file
I ripped a dvd.
Using Gspot, I could see that I needed the AC3 audio codec. I got it, installed it, rebooted. Checked, and its there. Using Dialhots Avs script 3, I have my perfect video file, but the usually simple Virtual dub audio (wave) rip gives the error: <NO AUDIO DECOMPRESSOR COULD BE FOUND TO DECOMPRESS THE SOURCE AUDIO FORMAT> Can anyone help? |
Hi I think you need to virtualdub mod for ac3
|
Could you explain please? I have no idea what that sentence means.
|
Sorry i meant to say to use the program virtualdub mod,it allows you to access the ac3 file
get it here http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.ph...threadid=44244 |
Excellent. Thanks. I'll try that.
|
Tried it.
When trying to open the resulting wav file with Headac3he, get an error message: "Chunk missing" Headac3he shows the file as 0.00 length. The wav file was 54mb. I'm not sure whats going on here. But I'm beginning to hate AC3 compression. All thoughts welcome |
Problem solved. There is an AC3-Acm Decompressor available for use with Virtual Dub.
Download it here:http://fcchandler.home.comcast.net/ He is the creator of the plug in. To install right click the inf file and select install. Worked for me. Thanks all. |

Ill try the link u gave EightBall Hopefully that will work for me to. ;) |
Do not use virtuabldubmod to do the conversion AC3 -> WAV. That is the job of headac3che !
The result you have is very bad comparing to the one from headache :!: Your problem here is just that when you extract the AC3 from you file, the extension put by virtualdub is ".wav" but it is NOT a wav file. That's why headache fails ! Just change the extension from ".wav" to ".ac3" and everything should be ok. Note : personnaly I use besweet insteed of headache : it can read the sound directly into the avi. No need to use virtualdubmod first. |
Hi,OK i just meant to get the wav file from virtual dub mod ,i still use headac3che to convert to mp2,i meant just to get it in wave form
sorry if i was misleading |
If you use the decompressor indicated by Eightball, you obtain a 2 channel (stereo) uncompressed wav and not an ac3 muti channel audio file.
Be carrefull ! You completly lose the surround informations. |

Is there a tool that will extract the audio perfectly so that u can feed that into Headac3e to convert to MP2? Thanks in advance. |
If you still want to separate before, in VirtualDub there's an option right above to the right "stream information" or something like this.
Open it, ... there you'll find the option demux stream or so, ... well you'll find it and this lets you separate the ac3 to HD! Then you can let HeadAc3he or Besweet do his job. ;-) |

@ incredible
Thank you very much i used VDubMod and used the Demux feature on the Streams menu and it saved my ac3 file which i then loaded into Headac3e to convert to MP2 and it worked a treat. I do have a small question on the audio i made the video to PAL KVCD 352 x 288 so must i use a CBR bitrate or can i use a VBR? Also it is best to downsample to 44.1 or can i keep it at 48Khz? Thanks again. :) :) :) |
For all kind of xVCD the audio must be MP2 CBR.
You can let it in 48Khs if your player accept it but not all of them can. |
