Detect scene change option in TMPGENc?
Do I have to use Detect Scene Change option in tmpeg if I use these optimal scripts to convert avi to kvcd ?
I have always converted my avis (divx&xvid) with kwags optimal MA script (without detect scene change) and now I am going to test these scripts. |
I use it personnaly but never did comparisons "with and without" to see what is better.

@Dialhot:
Depends on the GOP you're using. If you use the current GOP used in all KVCD templates you should turn that option off, since it breaks up a GOP and inserts a new I-Frame everytime TMPGENc finds a scenechange within a full GOP. This detection by TMPGEnc is very inaccurate with our MA script, so what it actually does is messing up your prediction and taking away some of the compression... :!: |
JellyGoose, we do NOT use MA script for avi. So that is a slight different story. By the way I just checked in my default settings and I did a mistake : Dectect scene change is uncheck.

@dialhot: Sorry about that, I forgot in which forum I am. I still think it's better to have it unchecked since it splits up the GOP at some points of the movie, which can't be good for prediction...
So now we're in an agreement. |
I think that Kwag mentioned earlier that it should be enabled. It's also a part of the KVCD specs IIRC :idea:

Yes. Scene Detect should be enabled.
All the latest tests produced lower file size and better quality with SD enabled. -kwag |
Heh... I forgot how to enable that scene change thingy... I am using ToK.

Alright, then, sorry for giving wrong advice... :oops:
