Cannot load my xvid file into VirtualDub ?

I got a xvid clipp which I cant load in VDub. Error massage

Could'nt locate decompressor for format 'XVID' (unknown)

VirtualDub requiers a Video for Windows (VFW) compatible codec to decompress video. DirectShow codecs, such as those used by Windows Media Player, are not suitable.

What should I do 8O

Install Koepi's latest XviD build.

http://koepi.roeder.goe.net

Make sure you get the development binary (dated 24.6.2003), not the old stable build.

Thanks, it works now :D

One thing more...how do I disable Post-Processing and should I change something exept Post-Processing :?:

You'll see one decoder settings box in the window that comes up when you start VirtualDub, choose video compression, choose XviD and configure. There you should have "decoder settings". Make sure the options are not checked.

Another one is found when you play an XviD clip in a media player. If your player allows you to see which filters are being used, you should be able to enter the XviD codec's properties. There are several checkboxes there regarding post-processing, IIRC there's deblock luma (H and V), deblock chroma (H and V) and dering (H and V). Make sure these are not checked.

I'm not sure which one of the two instances actually affect the PP, but if you disable the PP settings in both of them, you're good to go.

I know I've seen those settings before but now when I run zoom player-rightclick-Filter Properties-XviD MPEG-4 Video Decoder it comes up a small window and the only xvid setting menu is "about" 8O

Then install Nic's DirectShow decoder too.

The new disease is landed:

(The codec is an api4 branch of
xvid, (not DivX5 lamer stuff...) so you have
to use FFDShow to decode it:)

So there is no codec which to use... -> NoGo for svcd conversion.
Tried with DirectShowSource, but got only "Video Desync" warnings.

Well, if someone is stupid enough to encode a clip with a codec which is not approved by the devs, he's just asking for trouble. The branch is under development and not available to the public unless you compile the sources yourself. There are some builds out there but they are definitely still in alpha stage just as api-4.

Thanks for the great links Boulder. You know, it'd be great if someone could post a sticky for which versions of the codecs are best to use and where the files could be found. I had no idea that Koepi's latest development binary (6-24-2003) was better than the latest stable binary (4-10-2002), or that we should use Nic's Xvid directshow decoder! Phew...! I'm constantly confused about which version of ffdshow I need, or of the divx codecs... etc etc... you know what I mean!
