How to join 8 KVCDs onto one KDVD?
 

Hi all, just got to say this is an excellent site for info about KVCD, it helped me out loads.

But I do have a question about KDVD's. OK here goes;

I have about 8 KVCD files and want to join some of them together and convert them all to KDVD and burn them over 2 dvd+r's. Is this possible? How long does the process take approximately? I have a Athlon 1ghz with 258mb SDRAM.

I also want to be able to create DVD Menu's as well? You know the really prefessional ones. Any ideas?

What is the format (mpeg1 or 2) and the resolution of your KVCDs ?

The format is MPEG 1 and the resolution is 500x288

That is not a valid resolution.

BTW, the only resolution in MPEG1 compliant with DVD is 352*288, so you will have to recompress all your KVCD.

I guess I'm more of a newb than I thought. OK heres what I did to find the format and resolution.

I opened them in Windows Media Player 9 an selected FILE -> Properties

Here is what I got;

Video size: 500 x 288
Audio codec: MPEG Audio Decoder
Video codec: MPEG Video Decoder

If this is wrong how can I find out the correct resolution and format?

OK I just opened the file in Virtual Dub and it says;

Frame size, fps: 352x288, 25.000fps

It doesnt mention what format it is. But Nero accepts it when burning a VCD but not an SVCD so I guess that means MPEG1.

What should I do next?

There are many ways to find out the resolution of your files. Are you sure those are MPEG-1 files?

Well just download a little program called bitrate viewer, open you file and the resolution will be shown. Or just drag your file into NERO for a new Video-CD, and it will show the resolution.... :!:

The best way : use a programm called Gspot.

Or a simpler one : avicodec (that the one I use).

I downloaded and installed AVICodec and the format is MPEG1 and the resolution and aspect ratio are 352x288, (2.21:1).

So how do I convert these to KDVD so I can view them on my DVD player?

352x288/mpeg1 as already said above are acceptable sizes to author them on DVD-R
So what you only have to reencode is your audio when it comes from a KVCD!
Demux the audio from your kvcds and reencode it by using 48.000Khz!
Cause this is needed for DVD authoring.
Afterwards use a appl. like DVD Lab or TmpgEnc-DVD Author (which I prefer) to author and burn your KDVD including the KVCD 352x288 movies.
Maybe the authoring appl. gets in trouble when loading your mpegs by saying "GOP is too long" cause standard GOP length of PAL is 15 and NTSC 18, .... but *if your standalone accepts this* you can just ignore that message. Just try cause by doing this you author a xDVD.

OK so to demux the files, convert the audio to 48.000khz and to mux the files again i can use TMpgEnc right? If so, then I've already done this.

I installed TMpgEnc-DVDAUTHOR as well and It does come up with an error about the GOP thing. I think my DVD player is a bit fussy so i think i will have to solve this problem, but I will try creating a DVD first to make sure. I'll try this tonight after i finish work.

Am i OK so far by using TMpgEnc?

To be more correct : Demux with TMPGEnc, convert 44.1 -> 48 with Besweet, Remux with TMPGEnc.

Not needed. You should import the streams in DVD Author separately.
By giving them the same name and using the specific suffix (m2v (m1v),mp2),
DVD Author will find and import the audio by itself (if both are placed in the same folder).

OK heres the latest update. I demuxed the file and re-encoded the audio to 48.000hz using TMPGENC. This seemed to work Ok because AVICodec shows the audio as 48.000hz and 192kbps. I remuxed some of the files using TMPGENC and this worked fine for about half of them. But for the other half I got the following warning message:

28029 s packets cause buffer underflow.
The MPEG file might cause error when it played.

But these files seem to play perfectly on my PC, so I dont know what the prob is. Any ideas?

Sorry to be such a pain, but i really dont know anything about encoding mpeg files etc...thanks for help so far guys :)

Did you finally muxed the streams again???
As I said, no remuxing needed, just import Video and Audio separately into DVD Author or DVDLab

There's no problem. It's only a warning message from TMPGEnc.

Hey all, thansk for the help. I've finally made my 1st KDVD :D Made some great menus using TMPGENC-DVD AUTHOR. Shame it doesnt play in my DVD player, but I think thats to do with my old DVD player, i should be getting a new one on Friday.
