KDVD: Pulldown problems?

I applied pulldown on my NTSC encoded_kdvd.mpv, the result was very weird... the screen kept going up and down. Is someone familiar with this problem?

what's your source in origin?? A non-interlaced Blockbuster Movie (NTSC FILM)? Or interlaced (Comb artefacts)?
What did you use ?? DVD2Avi? What did it show on the right panel above when you did the coversion to a d2v project, ... NTSC or NTSC FILM?

And your TV device and Player? Both NTSC playback compatible?
Answers .... Please! ;-)

the source was an xvid encoded movie.
fps: 23.976
Frame Size: 592x320

How can I see this movie is interlaced?
I made a script and loaded this in CCE...
I used VMesquita's KDVD Template.
My TV and DVD Player are both NTSC playback compatible.

I hope this is enough information..

23.976 FPS Sources are based on 35mm FILM and therefore they can't be interlaced this is also known as progressive.

So you still have to encode at 23.976 (incl. NTSC Resolution set in Gripfit or calculated using moviestacker) and also set in the encoder the "3:2 Pulldown" option! .... try it.
Then import your 23.976 pulldowned stream into your DVD authoring Application. And thats they way how this works logically.
Btw: If you check your stream after encoding, the PC will say that this stream after encoding is a 29.976! ;-) Tricky, but in real its a 23.976 with 2:3 Pulldown. Many progressive (Blockbuster Movies) DVDs are encoded using the 3:2 Pulldown.

Well in this case as said a 23.976 isn't interlaced ...
BUT generally only trust your eyes! This means if you see the source video on a pc screen and there do appear Comb artefacts in fast moving scenes therefore its in an interlaced condition, also known as FieldBased. Progressive = Framebased

thanx incredible! I'll try this tonight, I'll give you the results tomorrow when the encoder is finished :D
BTW: the source isn't interlaced, can you tell me what's the use of an interlaced source?

Broadcasting and video for example

@incredible,
I think you are mistaken: since his source doesn't have combed frames at 29.97, it's already progressive 23.976; CCE 3:2 pulldown option is useful with 29.97 telecined stuff, specially hibryd content...

@cruz
The screen was going up and down on the PC or when playing in your stand-alone? What program did you use to author?

You're right, i was (little) mistaken cause at CCE the "3:2 Pulldown" is the same as in the advanced settings window of TmpegEnc.
But I was refering to a "Pulldown while play" ....
In TmpgEnc:

And as your CCE Guide does contain the use of Pulldown.exe as I remember... I think exactly this little Appl. adds the needed Pulldown-flag to the encoded 23.976.... ??? Am I right?

But maybe another solution will solve his problem if the problem doesn't depend on bad NTSC encoding ... :)

Yes! :D

Maybe the problem is his authoring application... And he didn't clarify yet if it is happening on the PC or on a stand-alone...
