damn...i now know what u are tring to tell me..btw i didn't know about that optical trick part..it's just that if i set it at overscan=1 or 2, the movie will be cropped at the sides(left and right) if i choose 544x480 res but if i make it 352x480 i would have to change the overscan=1...don't know whether TV prob or is just sumthing i have to do

As I see in his script above he has already overscan=3, but he didn't like the width... :?

No, if you use Gripcrop(544,480,overscan=3)
and Gripborders()
it is the same as
LanczosResize(496,304)
AddBorders(24,88,24,88 )
As you see total pixels in the frame are 496+24+24 horizontal = 544, and 304+88+88 vertical = 480.
If you want to make it even smaller in width you should crop the ORIGINAL SOURCE picture
AviSource()
CROP (0,32,-0,-32) -> this line will DELETE 32 pixels from the top and 32 pixels from the bottom of your source avi file which after this line will have resolution 608x256.

Hey Ray .... calm down ... everything depends on your explanations refering to your problem ... and at the last steps there was finally the ponit WHERE I did understand you!

So if I remeber GripFit performs a resized overscan??? ... but in your case it seems to be a "overlayed" borders added overscan. 8O

So .... Im not sitting beside you ... what means that I only can assume!

Two opportunities:

1. Post two Pics ..... One WITHOUT performing GripFit's Overscan and ONE (exatly the same Frame) WITH performing GripFit's Overscan.

2. Try to do your way using MOVIESTACKER and below the "resized" option at "Overscan" option activated.

So with these methods we could getting nearer to a solution.

And if not .... well ... this means not that I'm at the end of my latinum but at the end of my understanding what you prefer (sorry, should be my english) :wink:

But I still think we're fighting against proprtional facts & basics :? ?

So as I see you're already performing that "trick" .

And the resizing looks well! Maybe just a minimal touch of too much cropping on the right side.

And refering to your Line:This above is the max possible you can do while maintaining all Movieinformations! And to obtainin a "like" Widescreen view.
(average between 1.85:1 and 2.35:1 !)

okey incredible now this is what i want to do...i would like to use the settings for "gripfit with overscan=3" , decrease the height of the movie (not cropping) by means of adding the black borders to it.how do i do it??

p.s.
the reason i am doing this is so that i can see the minimal difference by reducing the height of the movie ,not the width...becoz if the movie is at almost full-sreen ,the possibility of viewing tiny little bit of video problems(like artifacts,blocks,mosquito noise,etc) is there...I JUST DONT WANNA NOTICE EM...

I undestood it so - you perform gripfit with ovescan, gripborders and after that AddBorders(0,64,0,64). Is it so?

Then I warn you:
The aspect ratio at your TV screen will be wrong! That means that if you have a correct circle you will see it as egg shape or elipse, but not circle.
So, make it and see it.
And BTW as Gripfit already made the picture 544x480, the AddBorders will introduce additional 64 pixels to the top and bottom, therefore the output resolution gonna to be 544x608, and maybe you are resizing in TMPG :? . I simply have a doubts it will be playable correctly if at all.

.... Msquitonoise, Blocks and so on depend on other things, and shurely in this case on your source.

So, ... do the resized Overscan as you already did it using Gripfit.
This already gives you an advantage in resulting CQ .... Change LanczosResize in your script to BicubicResize so your image won't be that sharp wich is useful to avoid more mosquito artefacts ... and choose a smaller width to encode. Maybe changing to 2 CD-Rs ... so there will be not that much encoding-"trash" added to the "trash" which comes already with your source.

What do you mean ? Overscan is just a parameter of gripcrop that is a filter involved in the encoding. Why do you want this to be or not be lossless ? Your question do not have any means.

Well, when you look at the TV show which fill all the TV screen, are you thinking you see all the picture :?: Yes, some pixels are not shown, they are out of the borders of your TV :!: This is the overscan. Getting this in mind when encode a movie you can squeez the picture so that all the movie picture will be seen on the TV screen. Usualy it is given as blocks (=8 pixels) for compatibility reason. So overscan=1 means that the picture (I prefer to say the frame) is squeezed with 8 pixels at each side. Overscan=2 is 16 pixels and so on.
