VirtualDub error: Couldn't locate decompressor for format 'MP42'

When I try to open the movie file I have. The VirtualDub gives me this error...........Couldn't locate decompressor for format 'MP42' (Microsoft High-Speed MPEG-4 V2). VirtualDub requires a Video for Windows (VFW) compatible codec to decompress video................. This what happens when I try to covert the audio to wave. I can watch the movie in my windows media player so I have the right codec to watch it. The movie is a AVI file. So if anyone could help me I'll really appreciate it thx......

The codec doesn't work for mp42

You say that the codec works for you that migth be but it doesn't work for me. And on the page you linked to it says that it is a mpeg-2 codec so how would that help you with a mp42-file?

Hi,

I always had trouble with VirtualDub. Then, I discovered GoldWave. No problem there. :D

Virtualdub is for video. Goldwave is for audio. I don't see where you can drop the first one for the second.

the first post was about extracting audio from AVIs to wav... isnt this possible with goldwave?

You're right.
