irritating Windows associated problem
I have about 40 audio and video files in a directory and I renamed each of them with a number prefix like 1_filename, 2_filename... but the number portion doesn't appear when I want to load the audio or video file into TMPGenc. Also if I have a videofile.m1v and a videofile.mpg I can't see the extension even if I click details. What am I missing here? How can you be sure the file is really the one you want if the entire name doesn't appear?
These problems appear in almost all windows programs, not just tmpgenc. This is exactly why I hate Windopes file manager so much!!!  |
   Tmpgenc didn't cut off the numerical part of the filename---I was looking in the wrong directory
But it still doesn't show the extensions though-- that bugs me |
If you're on XP, not sure about 98 or ME, open a file manager window. Go to "tools", "folder options" and "view".
Uncheck "hide extensions from known file types" That's it. -kwag |
that works with Windows 2K too-- I guess I have to take back all the bad things I said about it!
How come no one showed me that 10 years ago?? Thx Kwag |

I've always used alternate file management programs since the DOS days- (instead of dir, I used Norton Commander)- I thought that the Windows 3.0 file manager also sucked, but maybe I just needed to check out the "folder options" menu :D

Did you ever tried PowerDesk? I really like it... |
hey,
I always use Windows Commander- I never tried PowerDesk, I'll have to check that out, thanks! I like winCommander because it's split screen so you can copy files from one directory to another without having to scroll- also it highlights individual files with the right click-- instead of ctrl+file. I like the overall look of the winCommander GUI. |

PowerDesk has many interesting features, but the one I most like is the split screen!!! I will try WinCommander... |
