KDVD templates settings for TMPGENc?

I never used KDVD templates cos didn't needed to produce one . Now I'm going to use them first time and I want to assure that template settings are right.
I've few questions to ask and address probably be THE MASTER - KWAG .

@ kwag
1 . DC component precision have to be 10 bits or 9
2. Motion search precision - Highest ? ( not fast as in KVCD ???)
3. Video arrange method - Full screen(keep asp. retio) not center ???
4. Detect scene change - checked or not ???
5. Closed gop - checked or not ???

I know it probably sounds very stupid of me to ask those questions but I never followed after KDVD template changes ( never had to use them ).
So this is first time and I dont want to sk## up .

Hi bman,

DC component value depends on the average bitrate to be used, and MAX.
If you are going to do KDVDs with an average bitrate above 2,000Kbps and MAX of ~5,000Kbps, use 9 bits. Anything lower than that, use 8 bits.
For motion search, use fast, specially if you use high bitrates ( such as KDVD ). You'll get less artifacts.
For video arrange, use Full Screen if you are using an .avs script with resizing created by Moviestacker. That takes care of your aspect ratio.
Detect scene change is "checked".
Leave GOP open. You'll get more compression that way.

Just wanted to bump this older thread. I just went back to using Tmpgenc for KDVD as a test and the template I downloaded for 720x480 requird almost all of these adjustments to be made. So you might want to update the templates to reflect the times Kwag ;)

Hi J-Wo,

I think TMPEG is being phased out ;)

8O Are you serious? I've been using CCE for a long time now, ever since I switched to doing KDVDs after getting a DVD burner. But I noticed the support for CCE very low on these forums... Having said that what encoder ARE you guys using????

Use High Quality (slow) instead of Highest Quality (very slow) because in the newest TMPGEnc Version this setting is better, faster and you get more compression 8O !!!
I've tested it.

J-Wo,

haha nope! I've been busying away using CCE cause for a while there seemed to be a slump in development. Then when I came back to the forum I saw all these new topics that I never heard of. I've never even touched DIKO and that one seems like a hot topic. I haven't a clue what mencoder is but I'll check it out.
