video source that is 25 FPS - assume 23.976 ?

Hi i have a videosource that is 25 FPS,now what i am getting confused about is reading all the scripts with people putting assume 23.976 or whatever.

My question is why do we have to do this or can you just make it a kvcd with 25fps(pal) with no problems,is it just for people that standalone cannot play pal.

Please someone set me straight

Thanx

You have to use "AssumeFPS" only if your player and TV set can't handle the PAL frequencies. But as it's a very bad way* to do, don't use it if you not aboslutly need it.

* AssupeFPS only fasten (or slow dow) the playback so the sound is pitched up (or down) by 1/8th of tone. I personnaly do not like it at all.

It sounds better if you use an external tool (Goldwave or CoolEdit, or you can use WSOLA in a command console) since the speed of the audio will change but the pitch remains the same. I've used AssumeFPS(23.976) and this audio method a few times on PAL material that I wanted to play on my NTSC-only TV.
