KVCD: Video too dark?

I remember someone sending pictures about the same problem,
the encoded picture seems to be darker than the original!
What could cause this?

That can be due to colorspace conversion during encoding. Or it can be tied to the codec used for YV12.

I had for a while a problem with video encoded A LOT brighter than the original (black bars went gray :-(). I discovered that it was due to a new version of ATIYV12 codec I had installed. As you need an YV12 codec in order to use YV12 in avisynth, I finished by remove ATI and install XVid.

@CheronAph,

Also, make sure you have "unchecked" the option: Output YUV data as Basic YCbCr not CCIR601 in TMPEG.

I,m sometimes getting results a little on the dark side. I am looking in TMPEG for where to uncheck the "Output YUV data as Basic YCbCr not CC1R601". In Environmental Settings I don't have that, but I see under the General tab, some settings for Canopus DV Codec, 3 choices to check. The second one is "Interpolate YUV data from 4:1:1 to 4:4:4". And then some settings for Panasonic....Codec that has heck box for "Enable reading referred format AVI through network". Is this getting close?

It's in the "Quantize Matrix" tab, to in the environemental settings.
