Is there a way to burn a 528x480 non-standard KDVD?
 

Hello to all the fellow "K-vcd / K-dvd" encoders :wink:
What I'd Like ta know is ...
Is there a way to burn a 528 x 480 K-dvd (yes I know its non standard)
I find the video quality turns out better with this resolution but no program that I know of accepts this resolution without re encoding the movie. :cry:
Any suggestions ? 8)

It all depends on your standalone and if he accepts that non-standard resolution stream in DVD mode!
You can use DVDlab to import non standard resolutions in case of authoring DVDs ... just try it. ;-)

8) What I'm doing is using "Tok" with Tmpgenc & Avisynth 2.5.4"
to make a mpeg 2 svcd at the size of 2 80 min cds (in CQ)
(this way i can put 3 movies at 528 x 480 on 1 dvd-r)
Using standard max dvd GOP of 18 (NTSC)
and DVD standard 48 khz mp2 audio @ 128 KBPS
The only thing non standard about my DVD'S is the resolution

1 more question ... overscan 2 is great for dvds @ 720 x 480
But is it worth doing to dvds that r 352 x 480 or 528 x 480?
I think it jus makes u lose pixels around the corners that you tv cuts anyway,
But does it also take away from the resolution ?
for example 528 x 480 if we overscan it to 2 then does it mean that the encoded movie is compressed in width & hieght & that the movie is actually smaller than 528 x 480, ...
or is it that the encoded file is not compressed in hieght & width but is jus missing the borders to save space ?

Why not stay in the spec and use 704x480?

Because then it takes 12 hours to encode (p4) thats too much time

Why not use CCE? Stick to the manual at the top of this board and you'll have a movie finished within an eye's wink :wink:

Well, it has to.
I've burned 352x288 video on (mini)dvd, and it said it's not a standard resolution. But it has an option to ignore this :)

1. Als DVDlab allows importing of non std. DVD m2v streams.

2. at an encoding WIDTH of 720,704,544,528,480 .... an overscan of 2 (=16px on each side) is optimal and won't be seen on most Tv sets.
Streams with a width of 352 will be two times stretched afterwards and so an overscan of 16px is dangerous as it will be stretched also by two times = 32px overscan will be the result on TV effectively afterwards.
