I ripped them with subrip with "only forced subtitles" checked. Then I processed the subtitle track and it only got the forced ones.

andybno1 02-20-2004 02:56 AM

I have used subrip before but only once and I'm not all that great usin it could you give a quick guide on how you did it in subrip??

andybno1 02-20-2004 08:57 AM

nevermind figured out how to get forced subs from subrip just got the problem of getting them to show in the movie, tried IFOEdit and tried muxin it in there but didn't work so.....

1) do you or anyone else know how to convert a sub to a sup file??
2) how do I put the subs into the movie now from a sub file? or is there another way u could suggest?

A little search on the web with sub2sup will give you the solution :-)

The only other way I know is to generate a son (not sub) file with subrip. son is the format for dvdmaestro. If you use this authoring tool, that's the way to do.

Sub -> ifoedit -> vob is the way to use if you work with DVD-lab.

well I've looked an cannot find it would u know a site were it would be dialhot?

You could use an avisynth script to get the subs on the video. I don't know the exact line to use but it's possible with an .SRT .

andybno1 02-20-2004 02:47 PM

well on my searchin travels I found srt to sup I'm havin a hit an miss run with that at the min (mainly miss lol) but I think I'm getting there.

I didn't noticed that andy was doing KVCD :-(

The answer I gave to you where for DVD. Sup file is for dvdlab, so it's a
KDVD toppic.

Man, you are talking about muxing with Ifoedit ! Are you doing KDVD or KVCD ?

andybno1 02-20-2004 06:51 PM

I'm doing KDVD sorry for puttin this post in here I done it automatically lol I normally do it as demux audio and subs (only when forced subs are required) tmpgenc for video then mux it all together via ifoedit (no menus) in the case of lotr I used dvd shrink to make sure I could get the movie to fit an to set the forced subs to show when played. The only problem I have had now is the colouring of the subs I kinda figured out how to do it all with srt2sup used the prog to position the subs when played saved to sup file muxed it but colour is lookin a bit off so tinkerin about with it.

Anyway if this topic could be moved to KDVD forum to avoid further confusion pwetty pwease :D lol appologese once again for wrongly posting this here.

Don't bother coloring them now as they will be badly colored again after authoring.
What you have to do is to open the final VTS_01_0.IFO (the one of your authored KDVD) and the original one (the one of the DVD) in ifo edit.
In the original, unfold the "VTS_PGCITI" part and select the PGC corresponding to your movie (generally, PGC1). Then go to "subtitle colors" menu and select "Copy colors from this PGC".
Now go to the final IFO, unfold the "VTS_PGCITI" part and select the PGC corresponding to your movie (generally, PGC1). Then go to "subtitle colors" menu and select "Paste colors into this PGC".
Save the IFO. That's all :-)

cheers for that, all I got to do now is reencode part two of two towers because orignal encoding wont decrypt due to a read error or summit an I can;t for the life of me remember what CQ I used

andybno1 02-22-2004 08:08 AM

ok everythings done got srt2sup working now (woo hoo) I authored new dvd through IFOEdit I opened original IFo for the movie copied the subtitle colours pasted them into new IFO and now they are bold grey colour, how do I change the colour of the subs to the normal white colour?

andybno1 02-22-2004 06:30 PM

well I've been doin a bit of tinkerin and messin about and I have tried several movies to use the colours in the ifos and well the best I can seem to do is this, I would like to change it to white test and black outline instead of black text and white outline.

Lagoon 02-22-2004 06:44 PM

I've personally never managed to get the copy sub color right with ifoedit, that's why I'm always authoring with dvdmaestro as i'm used to it.

Dialhot 02-22-2004 06:52 PM

That's true that subtitle colors is a real pain in the ass.
The only efficient way, usable in evey case, is to put by hand the values you want in the final ifo ! But you have to put them in hexa and if your are not clever with this, just forgot.

andybno1 02-23-2004 02:39 AM

well I do have dvdmeastro but I've neverused it, and hexa I have no clue about so bit of a dilema there lol

Also how come I specified the right colour in srt2sup and yet when muxed the colour for the subs go into a green filled box where subs should be??

The problem is that even if ou set the correct color in one of the processing step, they will be scred up by the next one ! You have to set the color in the final step !

So no need to set the colors in str2sup. The settings won't be use anytime.

andybno1 02-23-2004 01:38 PM

I'll have a look in DVDMaestro, I'm not so bothered about having a menu for me dvd just want the two towers SEE on one dvd just wish the subs would co-operate lol

andybno1 02-23-2004 06:58 PM

:ole: woo hoo I'm gettin there hehehehe I'm slowly getting it all together through dvdmaestro, I am currently repositioning the subtitles as I've noticed delay in the subtitles showing but hey I'm getting there hehehehe I may also have to re-encode the video as the file sizes in total for both parts are comin in at over 5 gigs (not good).

I'll keep u lot posted to how I'm doin  send ya prayers my way  I'll need it for having patients
