Editing mpg file?
 

I downloaded a KVCD encoded mpg TV show from the Internet but found lots of commercials in it. How can I cut out these commercials and burn the file?

You can cut and merge with tmpgenc (menu file, MPEG tools).
Just think to use "VCD non compliant" or "SuperVideoCD" as muxing mode before to press on "go".

Also, you should look at womble.com for their MPEG Video Wizard 2003. It is simple to use and does not reformat mpg.

tmpgenc's cut isn't good in my case as it cuts in one point only


I used MPEG Craft v.1.01 but VCDEasy gave me error when burning the edited file!

I'll try MPEG Video Wizard 2003 and see.

Man ! If you need several point you just have to add the file more than one time in the job list and define for each part start/end points !

Thank you for your help. This method involves too much work. Try MPEG Craft to see how easy mpg editing should be. The problem with MPEG Craft is that the resulted file is playable with standard software but VCDEasy refuses! I even burn it using Nero with "non-standard VCD" unchecked but my DVDplayer did not play the CD!

I should say that MPEG CRAFT did not re-encode the file!

You downloaded (not even did it) *ONE* KVCD and you find that cutting commercials involve too much work ? Jeez...

I do not DL crappy KVCD on the net. I do them myself ;-)

For sure, THAT is a valuable tool. I understand why it is so easy to cut something with it :-D

And now, will you try TMPGENC or keep your video with its commercials ?

Oh, don't take too far Dial. I just wanted to say how easy it was to edit .mpg files using that tool compared to the others. I do kvcd and know how to cut using tmpgenc. Maybe I'm not experienced in this field as you and this why I ask.

Btw, I've used MCraft before but don't know what went wrong this time.

So, if you know why media player classic can play the file while vcdeasy says it has segment error and it is too short to be burn, then I would appreciate your answer.

That only means that the tool didn't realign the scan offsets after having cut the part you remove. In other words : it screw of the VCD (or SVCD) structure.
This tool is surely good for MPEG1/2 but apparently not for VCD/SVCD.

You can perhaps save your video by demuxing/remuxing it with tmpgenc.

Note: I didn't meant to put this "too far". But if you look your watch you will see that you are stuck on this problem since 3 hours ! Just to not use a tool that you know is working correctly (tmgpenc).
