KVCD: VBV size setting?
hi netlanders.
when using some K-templates I got underflow results. This won't necessarily make the MPEG file unusable but might lead to A/V sync problems, stuttering, and such. After some investigation I found out that some frames got larger than the predefined buffer size, mostly I-frames. So when using larger "maximum bitrate" it would be advisable to set the VBV to a higher value in MPEG1 encoding. Some templates only issue 40 KB, others are 48 KB. I set this value MPEG.Video.VBVBufferSize to at least 64 KB or 96 KB ( at high CQ and upper limit of 2400 kbps). The values are 65536 or 98304. The increase of the resulting filesize is virtualy NIL. Like the hole K-issue this does not conform to MPEG1 standard, but I haven't seen any problems yet. Probably because standalone DVD player have to work to even much bigger VBV size in MPEG2 (e.g. 224). Just give it a try and you might have less problems than b4. Obrigado |
Hi obrigado.
I found out that the "Center" best value is 48K. Higher than 58 or lower than 42, start giving problems on some DVD players. I personally have 5 DVD players, and at 48, they all play fine. Above 58, a couple of players start skipping. -kwag |

thanx 4 ur reply: >Higher than 58 or lower than 42, start >giving problems on some DVD players. I >personally have 5 DVD players, and >at 48, they all play fine. Above 58, a >couple of players start skipping. you're probaly right, I've just tested this on 2 players (Panasonic and Daewoo). But several time in the past I've got "error writing stream" of TMPGenc when I tried to encode at a higher upper-bps-limit (because there was same space left on the CD which I intended to invest in better pic quality). This has been solved by increasing the VBV size. Obrigado |
