how to convert 16:9 video to 4:3 Letterbox?

Im hoping someone here can help me,I want to convert and avi, resolution is 640x336 16:9 Letterbox format,i would like to convert it to 4:3 Letterbox and not lose anything in the conversion. The avi is very good quality. I would like to resize with Avisynth, any recommendations as to which template to use,and if i resize withiin Avisynth, what parameters would i use? Im am quite new to this but have been learning, and just about the only thing that escapes me right now is resizing within Avisynth.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Peter

Your avi isn't letterboxed. This word means taht the ratio of the picture is 4:3 but the actual ratio of the picture into it is 16:9 and taht there is blackbars arround the picture encoded in the video.

Here your avi is "normal". YJust use the optimal script provided in this section forum (see sticky post).

Thx Dialhot,so if i use ver 4 of your optimal script,i would just enter in width and height of my destination avi in GripCrop, would i need AddBorders? Source is 640x336. Any recommendations for a template? Sorry for all the questions, but would really like to use Aviscripts,as alot of avi's i have converted have alot of macroblocks, thinking using your script will help clean those up nicely.

Again thx in advance :)

No. The GripBorders line take in charge this part.

Use Kvdx3 and just adjust the resolution. Do your choice according to the length in minute of your movie.
