KVCD: supposed to make changes in the settings?
 

Hi Everyone,
I read the faq and I had a couple of questions. I am using TMPgenc and I put the templates in with the other ones. I extracted an mpg file from a SVCD PAL formatted disc. When I go into TMPgenc I use the template...but when i go to load the video I extracted it totally crashes TMPgenc. I have version 2.54.

Also with these templates am I supposed to make changes in the settings or are they set up for optimum encoding. I was wondering about the motion search precision. I would like to convert this movie from PAL SVCD to NTSC VCD. What would be the best way to do it. I found a guide over at cdrsoft.cc but i tried it to the T and I didn't get the right results. Thanks again and I hope to learn more about this encoding.

That helped a little bit but it seems like people have a varied different ways of making these. Also only converting SVCD to VCD was answered but I still had questions about the templates themselves and why does it crash my tmpgenc when i go to load the video up. I am wondering what is the basic guide for making one of these and then if i should have problems then I could write back to get help on tweaking it better. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction :D

Hi Scott,
The templates is not what's doing the crash. It's your source. You use the KVCD templates like any other of the templates included in TMPEG. So you can use all the procedures explained in the guides ( Sefy's, on the main page ) for your encoding. Just substitute the KVCD templates when you're ready to encode :)
About your PAL SVCD to NTSC VCD, I wouldn't do that!. Just convert it to PAL VCD. Every standalone DVD player that I know of that plays VCD's, can play both PAL and NTSC VCD's.

Unfortunately my Panasonic RP-56 doesn't support PAL...but does do VCDs...so that's why I am trying my damndest to get this to work. If worse comes to worse then I won't bother converting but I would like to see what happens. I should read sefy's guide...will that point me in the right direction? Also do I need to change anything in template like motion search precision or anything like that???

I have a Panasonic RP-56, and it plays PAL VCD's perfectly :lol:
I can't play PAL DVD's, only NTSC's, but VCD's are something else.
I have some original PAL VCD's bought at eurekamovies.com, and they work perfectly. So you won't have any problems with it 8)

I am taking this right out of my owner's manual for my Panny RP-56... Discs that cannot be played

DVD Audio
PAL discs
DVD ROM
DVD RAM/R
CD ROM
SVCD
SACD

and a couple of others.

I tried playing these Scooby discs in my player and it plays choppy with green squares. It says it doesn't support PAL discs...that's in page 3 of my owner manual. I know they are pal cause I checked them out with DVD2AVI and it's at 25 fps and says PAL. But my player doesn't play it unless I burned it wrong in Nero...I don't know. I am confused now...I don't understand how yours can play PAL and mine says in my manual it doesn't support PAL.

Also...I know these are in SVCD so I know that may be the trouble too...but I am not sure now what to do. Figures I had to download off of someone with PAL stuff instead of NTSC.

The reference to PAL in the manual is for DVD's. Download a PAL VCD sample and burn it with Nero. Here's one that was actually the first KVCD PAL sample, provided by Bilbogod.

Burn it as non-standard VCD, and check the PAL box in Nero.
It should play perfectly well in your RP-56.

Hot damn...you're right. It worked!!! My writer is a 16x but I wrote it at 4 speed. It played but once in a while I noticed some blockiness. Wasn't bad though. So now what you recommend with the cds I burned that are pal svcd. I don't have the original files however. But I should be able to extract the files right from the cds right? Then what would be my next steps after that. I have isobuster, tmpgenc, dvd2avi, vcdgear. Now I am feeling confident I can get these to play.

PS: Panasonic should write their manual better...very misleading when it says they don't support PAL discs. It should say PAL DVDs. THANKS AGAIN!!!!
