Kdvd vs. xdvd

Ok yes ur right, i was bored again so i started messing with kdvd and xvcds. But the results ive come up with are pretty interesting. I took the xvcd template techtv used and i changed the parameters in tmpgenc to match those of the full d1 kdvd template from this site. I dont kno anything about internal settings and i only changed the ones tmpgenc let me by clicking on the settings button. after encoding two samples i found the xvcd which i changed to be mpeg2 i.e. xdvd i guess the file sizes came out smaller than the kdvd. i used vdub to check the information and the bitrate on the xdvds were slightly less than kdvd which is why im guessing its smaller. but i tried my best and i couldnt tell the difference between the two samples. so i was wondering if someone could suggest some scene from some movie which usually is helpful to spot the differences or any other way of finding the difference between the two. i think i have a good eye i usually spot pixels and blocks that my friends dont even think exist :? anyways hope to get some replies. ez.

Hi g8o4lyf,

The templates that were posted for the show of TechTV, were old KVCD templates :)
The KVCD "Notch" matrix didn't exist at the time, and we've come a long way since.
The current TMPEG templates have the "Notch" matrix built-in, so the quality produced will be much better than with those templates.

sorry about that kwag u posted the reply when i was uploading the pics. well i dont want to sound like a dick but if they were old kvcd templates and the new ones indeed get better quality, im still getting a blur from them and i dont see any real difference, in other words they are almost not visible to the naked eye you know. for example the two images i posted. i zoomed in and out all over them and i cudnt really see any difference whereas the xvcd-dvd template gave me a smaller file. :?

First of all, you CAN'T encode with an arbitrary CQ value, and do a comparison.
You want to do a real comparison :?: then learn how to do file prediction, and when you match the same file size with those old templates to the same file size with the current templates, then you'll see that the current parameters perform way better than the old templates.
What are you trying to compare :?:
You need a reference, and the reference for comparison is to match same file sizes for all tests and samples.
I hope you understand what I mean
