It's MPEG-1. I played it on WinDVD and VideoLAN Client.

You do have XviD codec installed haven't you?
Because otherwise you won't be able to play the file at all.

Weird it plays on power dvd but nothing else i have,(winamp,WMP,STamp3)

I'm going to have to burn it to CD-R, to check the audio in my standalone. I see a little out of sync, "lip sync", when played on WinDVD.
Very small, but it's there.

Burning to CD-R now. report in 10-15 minutes.

Hello again fellas,with the new version what are the settings now as far as ntsc films,are we supposed to use none for field operation still because these are the lines i am getting now

This is normal in the beggining of the movie, if you keep getting this many time during the encode, it's a hard-telecide/hybrid content, and will get desynched this way. I still don't know exactly how to deal with hybrid stuff in mencoder.

Well, my results are that audio is in sync in the DVD player (Cyberhome), but it stutters every once in a while. So something is wrong in the stream.
Maybe a muxing issue :idea:

I just got done trying MEncoder for the first time today on master and commander. It turned out pretty good. the only thing I couldnt figure out where your supposed to check force film at? and some of the options that are in filtering options so I stuck with the dvd one. All in all I was very happy with it.

No need for that: mencoder automatically detects a 24 fps stream and change framerate.

And you did the right choise, the DVD filtering was designed to reproduce the optimal script. :wink:

Again, I'm just wondering why on I am getting files that are consitently too small, 550 mb on a 129 min movie, full screen at 352x240?

Most parameters are optimized for MPEG2. There hasn't been significant tests with MPEG1 to tweak the parameters.

I'm using mpeg2 with a 352x240 res, the only thing that affects file size for me is when I change the output resolution. Changing any other option such as media size, overhead, or bitrate seems to have no affect on the resulting mpeg video stream size. Is there something I can change or am I doing something wrong? I using an xvid dvd rip, selecting 1cdsvcd, the avi filter and a 352x240 resolution, ive tired various parameters, the only thing as I said that affects the files size is if I change the output resolution to higher. I also try both 2 pass and 1 pass, both produce a 550 mb file.

I'm re-encoding the same movie, but as MPEG-2.
I'll find out tomorrow if I get the same effect :)

I was just thinking that as I came down here to check for replys, thanks Kwag.

Some movies I encoded, mpeg1, from avi, reachs 700MB (without audio) and anothers only 650MB.
Does somebody knows why?

It would be very interesting some buttons for:

1. Edit MencodeMe temp.conf (Notepad.exe c:\path\temp.conf)
2. Edit MencodeMe encode.bat (Notepad.exe c:path\encode.bat)
3. Run encode.bat (last action in GUI: Preview or Encode, or last edited action)

Paths must be configurables.


With this buttons, a lot of functionality will be added. Allowing inclusively to add a command line for besweet.
