problems getting AVI to load in TMPGEnc?
 

Hey guys, i have been doing KVCD's for a while now and absolutly love them, however, lately I have been having problems getting my .avi's to load and/or convert properly in TMPGEnc. The files I am trying are of several different types, XVID< DiVX, are the ones I have the most problems with. I then tried converting them first using a program called Dr. Divx, but after converting with Dr. Divx alot of those .avi's have the audio way out of sync with the video. Do I have any other options, it gets really frustrating when your done converting and then u have to try and try again, some .avi's won't allow me to convert at all, can anyone lend me a hand here, please :cry: [/b]

1 - First of all, give a try to a guide (look at the right side of this page).

2- Read guides again.

3 - If you still don't find out that you want to, you must to tell us why tmpgenc don't load your avi's. What is the error message, and some others clues.

k, well I have just tried to extract the audio and convert to a .mp2 using TMPGEnc follow all the steps convert to a layer-2 44100Hz 112kbps. I wait till it is done and there is no audio, what am I doing wrong?

For extracting audio from a DivX/XviD file, you must open it in VirtualDubMod (not last version), select audio, full procesing mode, then select file, save wav, give it a name, ok.
Extracting wav process will begin. When it finished, you must to convert wav into mp2. You can make this with headac3he or with besweet.

So once I am done converting to an mp2, then I can go back to TMPGEnc and continue on with my conversion to kvcd I don't need to do anything with Dr. Divx?

You don't need Dr.DivX.
You need some KVCD Template, some file prediction method, some scripting idea (view answer in other thread), and bbmpeg for muxing (also you can use tmpgenc for this).

k, I have been able to do about half of my movies just following the dummies guide for kvcd. Now the other half will not load up proper, like now for example, I did as you said and converted to .mp2, then I separate the video in virtualdub, go back to TMPGEnc and try to create my .m1v and as it starts all that happens is the screen goes pink for a minute then goes really pixellated and then goes black, almost like if you were to be watching it and not having the proper codecs. What might I be doing wrong now, keep in mind I am a newbie of sorts and really have a hard time understanding some of the processes i haven't had to use before...... like scripts, i r=tried understanding the site, and I don't understand why I did't use them before, I would use templates for TMPGEnc but no scripts, or r they the same thing basically, sorry to be a pain in the ass but this is really frustrating for me....

Hey, I am having a similar problem...I have an .avi and am trying to convert to kvcd, I have converted a few with no problems, but with these other 2 I have no audio. I am following the idiot's guide, because...well...i'm an idiot :lol:

Also another problem, I tried to convert to the 528x480 and it was successful, but when I go to burn it to it says it needs to be reencoded...how do I set that up to where i don't have to reencode??
or how do i encode it?? I am using Nero 6...

Most probably because 528x480 is not standart compliant resolution for VCD. Usually in this case is recomended to turn off the compliance in nero before burning.
The other work arround is to use VCDEasy - I am using it for about two years without any probs.

Try to preview the video file in Virtualdub to see if the source is ok. Report here if you have some error messages, or if the video looks strange...

well, I'll try.
1. Start VCDEasy, select VCD 2.0 if you have multiplexed your file as non-standart vcd, or select SVCD 1.0 if your file is SVCD muxed
2.Click add files, select your mpg. VCDEasy will analise it and will give you a message that your resolution is not compliant. It will ask if you anyway want to add- so click yes(or OK I don't remember). If you have a message that your file will be padded on the fly, that means the mpg is not properly muxed. In this case you should kill the prog, mux the file again (I recomend TMPGEnc set as MPEG1 VCD (Non-standart)) and start all over.
3. Usually I am adding chapters. If the source is avi I am adding chapters every 7 or 8 minutes. Click Chapters and Make chapter every - here you should type the time.
4. Options - here select Use PBC.
5. At the Main tab give a name for the CD image end eventyally a Label
6. Click Go
At the end you have two files *.cue and *.bin with the same name. These you can burn with Nero. When Nero ask for the file (it is listed as CUE SHEET) you select the *.cue and burn.

Maybe you have check an option "Make only xml". (Just now I don't remember where it is. but I think it is somewhere)

I finally made the bin/cue files, but when I burned it to the disk, i tried to watch it on my tv and the picture was distorted...any clue on what i did wrong this time??

You did nothing wrong. 528 is not commonly played by standalones. Try with 544*480, to see if that is better for your player.

For the audio, as we don't know the guides (and don't want to read all of them) can you summurize the ops you did concerning the audio part ?

for the audio, i followed the idiots guide and created an mp2:
44100
dual-channel
112

but the mp2 cannot be played...how do i check the audio on the .avi, so that i may be able to give you more details to possibly help me out :D

Load the avi in the program called GSpot.
Don't use TMPG for audio in avi as the majority are not handled correctly by TMPG - in connection with this don't use this guide if you care about audio.

Alright cool, i just looked it up in GSpot, the file is ac3...
i was about to use headac3he to convert the ac3 to mp2...
you mentioned not to use TMPG for the audio conversion, since it converts it to mp2, should i convert it to something other than mp2??
