MencodeME Bug reports Thread
Hi!
I thought as the mencoderME thread is now separated, .... this will be a nice Help for VMesquita to get BugReports. So he will see it a bit more clear and can find the points more easy ;-) So Please, in Case of problems like "How can I do this and that" plz. open a new thread. Here We are talking about Bugs. And what could be done easier, means suggestions., Thx. |

Well VM, it's not exactly a bug, as it works, but in temp.conf (is it used by mencodeme?) there appears twice mbqmin=1.

Can something be done about the buffer underflow that occurs at the beginning of every encode (at least it does for me)? Every encode I've done with MEncoder or MEncode-me so far are 3 frames shorter than they should be...

And if there's nothing that fixes, report to mplayer mailing list. I know the manpage is not that straightfoward, but this is how the IVTC bug got fixed, I tested in every possible way, read tons of mailing list posts, posted the exactly problem and they fixed in less than three days :!: MEncoder is a free encoder in development but if we don't try to help them fix the bugs it won't go as far as it could. :wink: @prodater64 Looks like you are trying to run the second pass without the first... Or you just posted the second pass? :? |
Other not-bug report,
when I select a PAL resolution output (528x576 for instance), in the temp.conf there's OFPS=25 (that's OK) but it keeps keyint=24. It would be great that, if we choose a PAL resolution (...x576 or ...x288), and depending on destination format (KVCD, SKVCD or KDVD), keyint switched between 15 (KDVD) and 25 (KVCD or SKVCD). Don't know if it's that easy, or is better to have a GOP length option, to choose between 15, 18, 24 or 25 (the solution I propose is more automatic, but maybe more difficult for you, don't really know) |

MEncodeME v0.23 for Linux
Found a bug in AVI.fil that causes mencoder to drop all those filtering stuff.

Hi this isin't really a bug but i have been doing a lot of testing and for some reason this happens
Example when i start a movie called test it finishes test.mpv and if i try and do it again it won't overwrite the file it goes through the process but won't overwrite the file Is this normal |
VM, just another not-bug report. More precisely is a thought I had. :idea:
I'm doing my first AVI to SKVCD with MencodeMe023. In AVI filtering combo I see you use a filter combination with spatial filtering, postprocessing, added noise,... Don't know if you based it in Phil AVI to KVCD V4 avisynth filtering combination, that also works great. In Phil V4 he uses LanczosResize. Maybe you could use (and here is my suggestion) sws=9. I'm trying it right now (but don't have the time/PC speed to test with bicubic). With sws=9 I use in scale a param=2 value (instead of 7 you use for bicubic), what do you think?. I'll post the result of AVI to SKVCD with sws=9 and scale param=2, and you can see if it worth use it in future MencodeMe AVI filtering combo... |

This never happened to me. :? @digitall.doc The AVI filtering combo is supposed to reproduce Dialhot V4 script for DivX/xVID Content. But it has a lot of room to improvement since I am sure I did much less tests than Dialhot did. So feel free to improve. :wink: Later please post screenshots so we all can see the difference. :D |

OK, I'll make some tests, and send somebody (you?) some screenshots. But it'll take some time, since I'm very busy right now... ... But from a theoretical point of view, wouldn't it be better to use Lanczos as Dialhot does in his V4 script?. And what about param value, do you know what is it useful for (I don't understand "filter length" in man_page)?. The test I did with AVI combo and Lanczos (anime film) looks good. |
Well, after much testing I still haven't been able to solve the buffer underflow I get at the start of every encode :cry: .
Is there a way to pre-buffer the encode? Maybe that would be a way to get rid of the underflow :idea: I don't know... Just an idea. |
Interesting, why you are worried about this underflow?

I know this buffer underflow isn't a problem when encoding a full DVD rip, since virtually all DVD's start with a black screen. But, if I want to encode some of the extras from the DVD (let's say a music video) and the clip doesn't start with a black screen, I (might) be able to see there are frames missing. Not a big problem, I know :wink: , it's just that I believe it can be fixed, somehow... |
Please, correct me if wrong: KVCD is mpeg1 format, and SKVCD is mpeg2 format, is that OK?.
VBV size is about 40 for KVCD and 112 for SKVCD, isn't it?. Then, if I'm not wrong... My last encode is a mpeg2 film 352x288, done with avs script (Phil v4) -> makeAVIS -> MencodeMe (1cd SKVCD). It gives me lots of buffer underflowmin errors on second pass. In temp.conf the vrc_buf_size=327... I guess that as the resolution is 352x288, the VBV assigned by MencodeMe was that of VCD. But as it is SVCD, maybe it'd be better VBV=917. |

Hi VM,
The cropped width and height are for manual cropping, right? Being in PAL land my sources are always 720x576. Let's say that I pick a DVD source and I load it into Moviestacker. Let's also say that I want to crop 12 on top and 12 on bottom because of black bands. Let's say that I want to go for a non-anamorphic 4:3 encode. Moviestacker will tell me to resize to 688x400. So my command line in mencoder would be something like crop=720:552,scale=688:400,expand=720:576, right? But MencodeMe is switching the order of crop and scale and that is "screwing" the AR. If you don't specify, it will center the crop: so if ask to take away 32 pixels from width it will take 16 from each side. Generally this is what we want to do.

I admit that I havent read all of this thread :roll:
I have sugestions, not bug report: 1. There is no sense of seting min quantizer to 1, quality will be no beter than with vqmin=2. So there is no gain of quality, but this raises overal bitrate (not too much but always it is something). I think that vqmin=2 specialy tof fullDVD resolutions is enought. 2. Also I think that libavcodec has B-frame bug. I've noticed this in ffvfw, and mencoder have this also. If you set some Bframes (1 or 2) overal filesize will be higher than without Bframes. Difference isn't much (about 3%) but egzists. 3. Another thing: you can add vhq optional mode. It's slower but for some might be useful. Speed drops about one/third, but quality rises a bit (useful for low resolutions). Thx for great tool VM :lol: EDIT: ... if only vhq works :) Documentatios says it does what does, but I get no speed slowdown , and quality improve. Maybe I'm using this wrong way :oops: |

I wasn't on shedule with mencoder testing, so that's why I posted this sugestions :roll: I got one more: to set custom target along with KVCD, 2KVCD, SKVCD, ... cause only way to produce (for instance) 50MB file is to "unlock advanced" and set bitrate. If it's possible try to add this. I've also readed somewhere, that someone sugested pararel preview of encoding (like in TMPG). It's possible or not to use mplayer for this? Thx :) |
It would be cool an option for "no audio" in drop down box, for people that uses ac3 audio. Then they will obtain a only video predicted file that conbined with the media size advanced settings, it will permit obtain the final size needed (of course they must to know ac3 file size and make a sum like "Final Size = Media Size Settings + AC3 File Size")

... and (sorry for this wish list ;) ) maybe it is good to add second pass option. After one pass encoding , mencoder creates divx2pass.log, so if someone isn't satisfied with results (like me ;) -> joke ) can always do another pass.

Why ? is MencodeMe error or me ? |
The one error found for me is that MencodeMe not open AVI file with attribute read only !!!
I need for encode AVI from CD-ROM unit .... jejejeje :D |
