BBMpeg: too big to fit on 80min cd
 

Hi

I very recently started making KVCDx3-MPEG-2 encodes with tmpgenc. Previously I made svcd encodes. As well, I used tmpgenc for muxing. It worked fine for standard svcd.

It has become very clear to me that tmpgenc stinks at muxing KVCDx3-MPEG-2 encodes. So I tried bbmpeg. It does a great job of encoding. It also, however, more than doubles the overhead.

I have several mpeg-2 files which are 790Mb to 795Mb which I would like to demux and then remux with bbmpeg. The problem is that after remuxing, they will all be too big to fit on 80min cd's.

I don't want to re-encode the audio to a lower bitrate. Is there some way to reduce the extra overhead when muxing with bbmpeg???

Just use tmpgenc to mux. The files it outputs are generally 1% - 2% smaller than the ones from bbmpeg.

Same here. I have been experiencing some problems with the "new post" notification "yellow icon".
It seems that it sometimes fails and the whole forum will go as "already read" and it starts working again.
As I think it is IE problem based, I am now testing Mozilla Firefox 0.8 just to see if it gets any better or if it has something to do with our KVCD server.
Anyway I would also use Tmpgenc's muxer as it produces least overhead than bbMpeg.
In normal conditions (no diskspace probs) I would rather use bbMpeg or Mplex, though.

Here is the problem I am having. After muxing with tmpgenc, the audio-video sync looks good on the computer. After burning with nero there is audio lag during playback on my dvd player. I've done enough tests to know that the audio lag is a result of the burning process. perhaps 1 out of 5 burns have no audio lag. The audio lags from 100mSec to 250mSec the other 4 times. If I use bbmpeg to mux, I have no audio lag problems after burning. It's not a problem with nero...roxio does the same thing. For sure, bbmpeg writes a better header, which is why it requires the extra size.
Another issue...when I play a tmpgenc encode on my dvd player, audio-video sync is lost after fast forwarding. This is not a problem when I mux with bbmpeg.
Anyway, I think if I want to remux my mpeg files, I'll have to trim some of the closing credits by setting a size limit in bbmpeg.
I'm curious...has anyone else experienced this problem with tmpgenc muxing?
