Lol.

Don't worry. Nothing really concerning : 10 days ago two young people died in an electrical plant where they entered to hide themselves from a police control*. As everytime in this situation, some "excited" use that to start a "guerilla" against the society.

You have to know that in France is a "sport" between sometimes very young people (9 years old) to burn some trash cans and throw stones one the firemen that come to stop it. So the police has to follow the firemens, and the situation is always very "explosive".

The problem is that, this time, the things are going worst and worst because the government didn't do anything to stop the process. So night after night there is a sort of "contest" between the gangs in each city to see who will burn the more cars.

150 the first night, 300 the days after... the peak was 1400 car burnt in one night two days ago. Yesterday the governement declared the sieges of the cities, 12 days after the first problem. A little too late but... "only" 1200 cars yesterday.

Everything should be okay by the end of the week.

Meanwhile the France gives the image of a third-world african country having a civil war :-(

* the funny part ? These people weren't followed by the police ! They saw people running, so they ran also. And all that finished in a drama.

Well, actually them problem ain't the image that France is giving us.
The problem is actually more of concern for innocent people security.
We knew that we were already having problem with foreign people that want to spread terrorism and 5h1t like that.
Now we have to start taking big measures for domestic incidents also.
And environment incidents too!
Bottom line: hope you guys can put an end to that problem soon.
Until them, you make sure you take cover and take care of yourself.
Cheers

The only thing I find crazy is that they burn cars nearby thei own buildings. That mean that they burn cars from people as poor as they are. Too poor to have a good insurrance that covers this kind of incident. If my car is burn, I will be upset by my insurance will pay for that.

Actually the closer car that has been burn was at my former location, 4 kms far from the place where I live now. So far, so close...

That's a good start.
Last time I check my insurance also covered such criminal acts.
But let's not put our lives in the hands of insurance companies.
Sometimes they tend to...see our problems from a different perspective, one that might prevent us from using their services ;-).

News Update - Paris calm under curfew

Wednesday, November 9, 2005 (Paris):

Curfews have been imposed by several local authorities in parts of France overnight (Tuesday).

They were facilitated after the government imposed 50 year-old state of emergency laws earlier in the day in an attempt to put an end to days of rioting across the nation.

The 12-day state of emergency began as the country's worst civil unrest since the late 1960s entered a 13th night.

In the southern Paris suburb of Savigny-sur-Orge, the curfew came into force at2200 local time on Tuesday (2100 GMT), affecting everyone under the age of 18.

Only a handful of people ventured out onto the streets, which were virtually deserted in this suburb.

Centre set up

Meantime, the Mayor's office has set up a crisis centre in the town hall to deal with any disruptions.

Similar curfews were also in place in the Paris suburb of Le Raincy, as well as the northern French cities of Amiens and Orleans.

Under the emergency laws police have the power to put suspected troublemakers under house arrest, ban or limit the movement of people and vehicles, confiscate weapons and close public spaces where groups gather.

In all 8,000 police officers have been deployed with a further 1,500 reservists calledup as reinforcements.

Curfew violators could face up to two months imprisonment and a 4,400 US dollar fine. Minors face one month imprisonment.

Violence continues

Despite the state of emergency, new arson attacks and unrest broke out overnight Tuesday-Wednesday.

A clash broke out between youths who threw petrol bombs and police who retaliated with tear gas in the southern city of Toulouse.

In Nice, a man was in serious condition after being hit by a barbell that fell from a high-rise building in a neighbourhood where there had been recent riots.

Authorities were investigating whether it was an accident or an attack. The violence started October 27 as a localised riot in a northeast Paris suburb, angered by the accidental deaths of two teenagers.

The youths - of Mauritanian and Tunisian descent - were electrocuted while hiding from police in an electricity substation.

It has grown into a nationwide insurrection by disillusioned suburban youths, many of them French-born children of immigrants from France's former territories like Algeria.

Vandals burned 1,173 cars overnight on Monday-Tuesday, down from 1,408 vehicles the previous night, police said. Police made 330 arrests, down 395 the night before.

The violence claimed its first victim Monday, with the death of a 61 year-old man beaten into a coma last week.

Foreign governments have warned tourists to be careful in France. Apparent copycat attacks have spread to Belgium and Germany, where cars were burned.(AP)

Of course ! Things can't stop immediatly just because they decide the "state of emergency".
But anyway, 600 cars burnt last night... the half that we had two days ago. I said that all will be over before the end of the week and I still think it.

Well, but now the problem is spreading 8O.
Last night 2 cars burnt to ashes in Amadora a Lisbon suburb :!:
Authorities reported that citizens saw gangs tenths of people going up and down the streets right before the incident took place.
On the other hand TV news also reported that last night there were other European countries suffering from the same problem.
If this reeeaaally starts spreading...
Stay tunned.
Cheers

Belgium was first, and Germany the second. But Portugal take the third place. Not so bad :)
