Happy (belated) New Year Kwag! (and everybody)

First off, consider yourself served one virtual beer...you've certainly earned it! (in fact, make it a virtual keg for all those who've shared their knowledge here!) :) I'd like to say thanks for all the great effort you've put forth and for so openly and enthusiastically sharing it for everyone's benefit. It's truly refreshing to see you (& sansgrip & numerous others) so rabidly "pushing the limits" of this hobby, and yet still somehow finding the time to reach out and helpfully and graciously reply to numerous posts (even those insanely newbie-esque ones that must drive you nuts upon seeing them for the upteenth time!). :)

That said, one of my New Year's resolutions is to master the kvcd "tricks of the trade" so that hopefully I'll be able to replicate your great results and squeeze every last drop of quality out of my vcd's...the quality and length-of-play that you've been able to achieve with your templates is remarkable. Now, I'm admittedly rather new to the whole vcd "scene", and I've actually never even tried anything other than capturing directly to mpg1 (with liveable but so-so results), but I HAVE been lurking (and learning :book: ) on your site for a few months now (as well as the other relevant forums/websites out there), and I'm fairly confident that it's almost time to jump in the water and swim.

However, as has been previously stated by a few others, it's funny just how quickly the waters deepen here 8O (the rapid new developments lately have been somewhat mind-boggling just to follow, much less fully understand or keep track of!...especially for us newbies :dunce: ). That's why I'm SOOOOOOOOOOOO :yippie: excited to hear that, once you're done tweaking and testing your matrix and things have stabilized, you and/or some of the more advanced forum members will be updating the FAQ and creating a How-To Guide. While it's true that all the necessary info can be found by wading through the ocean of forum postings, it's truly a bit of an overwhelming process trying to hunt and peck through them all until you think you've found the most current methodology (and believe me, I have!...this may be my first post, but I swear I feel like I practically know many of the people here already just from all the reading I've done!).

As a VERY interested (yet uninitiated) onlooker, I'd like to thank Sansgrip for bringing up the idea for the new How-To Guide awhile back within the seemingly neverending CQ Vs. CQ_VBR thread. I know that I (and I'd guess many others) have been waiting for just such a reference to surface (no offense to Red-Man's guide! :) ). My only hope is that it is done in a very complete, up-to-date, ridiculously-newbie-friendly manner (the more foolproof, the better!), including all the links to the various programs/codecs/etc and how/where exactly to install them so they'll work properly, as well as detailed screenshots and step by step instructions. I know it's probably not the most thrilling project, but I'm sure it'll help lots of people and maybe it'll even eliminate many of the time-consuming questions that frequently pop up in the forums (thereby actually freeing up some of your time for more important ventures....like Frankencoder!...or sleeping and eating! :lol: ) Oh, how sweet it'd be to see that Frankencoder in all its GUI glory! Maybe Santa will bring that gift next year Kwag? :lol: In the meantime though, a nice thorough guide detailing the manual kvcd process (preferably starting with LBR) will sure help kickstart the new year! Sure, a single sticky-post containing links to the vast number of relevant posts/screenshots/etc might suffice, but you've never really been the type of person to allow things to just "suffice", right? :D Oh yeah, and maybe some of those naysayers out there will even quiet down too once they actually know how to do it themselves and see the results! :P

Anyways Kwag, I know that was a real mouthful (or 4 or 5) but I just wanted to let you (as well as all the other contributors) know that all your hard work is much appreciated, even by some of us who haven't yet given it a try!
