In addition to all the great movies already listed, I never forget to set the vcr for every episode of The Sopranos (thank goodness Gandolfini and HBO settled their recent $ skirmish). I thought Road To Perdition was also done very well. But in the end, The Godfather trilogy just whacks the competition, hands down. Everything else pales in comparison to that ~8 or 9 hours of perfection (yes, even Part3 is good in my book, despite some peoples' rumblings to the contrary). Yummy pizza. -d&c |

Its not exactly a movie, but the sporanos have my vote for the coolest gangster family.
The knockabout guys wasn't a bad flick for what it was. Defiantly not a greatest hit, but worth watching if your bored. -BC/.02 |

after a too many cold ones,,,, nothing better than to cue up my
Scarface dvd or even Carlito's Way.... though Pacino did a good job, can't help but wondering which latin actor would've done just as good a job as Al ? ztr |
Scarface is not that bad, of course, personally I don't think that Pacino can make a bad movie. But that's just me.
The only thing I don't like about Scarface is the fact that they tried to do a re-making of the life of Salvattore "Lucky" Luciano, who was the real "scarface" but gave it a modern (for the time it was made) air. Changing so many things that for someone like me who is a real mafia fan, it’s not that appealing. I preffer movies that are related to real live stories and that's why I like Donnie Brasco, you know the real story of agent Joe Pistone, and how when Paul Castellano became Boss he droped the contract on his head. Again I'll take Pacino anytime anywhere  On the other hand I do agree with the fact that the Sopranos its extremely interesting, specially since it is based on the life of the Gambino Family and that story alone its extremely interesting. Speaking of which, if you are interested in mafia movies made out of the real gangsters you can try: Boss of Bosses with Chaz Palminteri, Based on the rise and fall of the Gambino Family, Starting with Vito Genovese, who was the BOSS, in the begining and then goes to, Carlo Gambino, Neil Dellacroce, Paul Castellano and finally John Gotti. I also like Gotti with Armando Assante. Also Marked for death with Steven Segal that would give you a little inside of the Jamaican mafia. He has another movie as well who lets you take a look at the Russian mafia, but I don't remember the title right now. And of course we cannot close this post whithout a salute to The Godfather:drool: Cheers! |
If anyone gets some info regarding the TV series "The Untouchables" on DVD....just let me know. That show put my hometown Chicago on the map,and made it famous...or infamous worldwide, so much so that when I travel overseas, I never have to worry about my baggage or anything else being taken or stolen......cuz they know where I'm from. 8)

Here my two cents:
The best Acting ever done : Al Pacino- SCARFACE Close to perfect as it gets : Robert Deniro- CASINO any movie they are in, you completely believe they are that person they play. There is no doubt even for one moment that the character they are portraying is not them. They are "invisible" they become the role. Bobby Deerfeild, The Deer Hunter, Heat, Taxi, you name it. These men dont make a bad picture. In fact, they can carry a bad script by themselves, and make a bad movie "good enough". These are the two finest male actors in the world today, in my opinion and are interchangeable as the best actor of my lifetime, in my opinion. then a few steps as nothing approaches these two. then a lot of them that are excellent, Masters of the craft: including: Sydney Poitier, Jack Nicholson, Jack Lemmon, Alan Arkin SR., Denzel Washington, Richard Widmark, Tyrone Power, Kirk Douglas, Richard Burton, Sean Penn, Val Kilmer, Anthony Hopkins, Leonardo Dicaprio, and lots more I'm too tired to come up with. Then a lot who are good, very good: John Cusack, Brad Pitt, John Travolta, James Woods, Tom Cruise, Michael Caine, Ed Norton, Joe Pesci, Ray Liota Morgan Freeman, etc etc A lot of plumbers, who are interchangeable. They dont always get the plum roles but they make whatever they get work to some degree: Peirce Brosnan, Eli Wallach, John Leguizamo, Ben Affleck, Alfonso Ribisi, etc etc, and then the downright untalented, one dimensional, how did you ever get in this business, I want my money back: Corey Haim, Michael J Fox, Steven Seagal, Chris Tucker, Warren Beatty, Chuck Norris, Al Lewis, Peter Lawford, Ice Tea, Mike Myers, and right down to the "If I see his name in the cast, I'm not renting it", Absolutely has to have nude pictures of someone producers wife to ever get a job CATERING in hollywood, much less in front of a camera: Like Deniro and Pacino share the top spot, this actor , in my opinion OWNS, the worst ever spot, because you have to be pretty darn bad to be worse than Keanu Reeves. ( I hope he never sees this.) The man can not act. Give it up. As for the Ladies, there isnt a lot of them I'd mention, through no fault of their own, merely the way we objectify women seriously limits them to batting eyelashes, having sex, or.. not having sex only to end up having sex by the end, ... lets face it, womens roles mostly suck because we control movies, the reomtes, and we want them naked. The one who isnt sexy enough for those roles is the blessed one because she gets to pick through ACTING roles that they hand her because no one wants to see her naked, (including lesbians) so they dont send her the scripts that limit her skills. She's been up there all alone for a long while, she owns the top spot I guess.. Meryl Streep. But I will say that one woman, who has broken through it all, and can lay down a powerful performance, (and still give you wood) is my choice for a close second.. Shes Sharon Stone. And if she were born unnatractive, maybe the choices of roles would have been better and she might have become better than Streep. Although, that is a pretty high climb, I must say. Honorable mention to Holly Berry, who to me seems like a ****** but she consistantly suprises me with strong performances and believable portrayals, despite the fact that she is pretty darn easy on the eyes. And reaching back, my all time favorite actress, brilliant performances far above those around her at the time, Gene Tierney. If she wasnt older than my mum, and quite late, I'd have married that girl. :) Geez... who asked me? |
Who the heck is Holly Berry?
I mean of course Halle Berry, whos swimsuit scene in James Bond was woth the admission. |
...never could understand why Al Pacino didn't get an oscar for that role.
|
I gotta disagree with you a little bit about Warren Beatty- although I haven't seen most of his movies, I thought he was great in Bugsy, Bonnie & Clyde and Heaven Can Wait. Bugsy was a good gangster flick IMHO :D
Michael J Fox is definetely very one dimensional but not untalented 8O  He fit the role perfect in Back To The Future, Doc Hollywood and The Secret To My Success more bad actors: Adam Sandler |
........say goodnite to the BAD GUY
