8O
I wonder if other manufacturers will "leak" firmwares for their regular DVD burners.
If so, then we can use single layer driver to burn dual layer DVDs :D

yes...and i'm "praying" that my LG 4081b can do the same!

a 4 months ago i got for round U$200,00 the LG-4081 8x.
 now the dual layer LG 16x dvd+r is less than U$120,00.
and came with a dvd-ram media!

That's good to know, because I use my Panasonic DVD-R/DVD-RAM almost evey day :D
I am storing all my Audio CDs (ripped and encoded with lossless FLAC) to DVD-RAM, for storage.
This way, I can encode to future lossy formats for portable players, and it's as easy as a simple read/write on the media, just like a hard disk ;)

Pioneer already showed that on last CEBIT meeting (months ago) and told that it will never release the firmware.

And to complete the info, several brands already deliver (months ago) such feature on their old burners. See news archive on doom9 forum.
