[DVD-R] do you know "Taiyo Yuden" manufacturer?
Hi,
I just come from this poll : http://www.cdfreaks.com/poll/26 and near half of the people voted for a manufacturer I don't even know. Can someone tell me under which brand(s) they are sold ? |
TY is just about the best there is, that's very much true. You'll just have to watch out for the fake TY discs - when the price is very cheap, you can be sure it's a fake.
Verbatim is one brand which has TY's in some discs. See here: http://www.os-mediatrade.de/ (they sell genuine TY's) |

Thanks Boulder. Edit: I browse a couple of online site and they all write "These are authentic Taiyo Yuden (made in Japan, media code TYG02)" :D |
I've heard of this manufacturer and imho the genuine Disc's are the best. I use Disc's with their dye.
|
For information, what can be considered (in europe) as a good price for such discs ?
|
Taiyo Yuden is (was) also a distributor for TDK.
According to the IDs: Yuden's TTD (TDK) MCC (Mitsubishi) like Verbatims Ritek G04 do have a nice Quality. But MCC did on the Verbatim DVD-R 8x a bad job. As the Dye is recognisably worse than on the 4x versions. Normally here in germany the prices fo very good medias are about 17-24€ for a Cake Box containing 25pc. :) |
Here in the U.k the prices usually are:
Ritek DVD+R 8x, £9.99 for a tub of 50 Ritek DVD-R 4x, £6.99 fora tub of 50 |

Guenuine TY are sold near 0.8-1€/disc. That is more than £20 a 50pcs cakebox. So I wonder about the quality of these Ritek. Do someone know a link where I can check which disc ID is a TY (guenuine or EOM) or not ? |
A good Online CD/DVD Media Distributor does mention those IDs on each Media product page. I would keep hands off from Distris which doesnt mention IDs.
Anyhow .... Fakes are not only Brand-Labeled, also Brand ID faked  This one is german BUT you can choose french blabla ;) http://www.dvdrohlinge24.com/catalog...hp/language/fr And I found silver blanks Taiyo Yuden in 100pc. boxes for 68,73 € (0,69 € each): http://www.dvdrohlinge24.com/catalog...2A/language/fr I think shipping is no issue?! I also have no Problems using RITEK G04 as I always no exceed 4x speed when burning using my Pioneer Burner: http://www.dvdrohlinge24.com/catalog...01/language/fr |

But you surely did a mistake then has you said Ritek G04 are TY but you can find them on dvdrohlinge for 17.5€ / 50pcs 8O http://www.dvdrohlinge24.com/catalog...roducts_id/701 BTW, I saw last week discs with a blue dye (not the commun purple or deep purple). Does anyone tried some like that ? |
I wouldn't touch RiDiscs, they are Grade B in Ritek's books.
|
I meant that I never had Problems with the Manufacturer Ritek G04 (the ID, like Taiyo Yuden).
17,50€ for 50pcs is very cheap. EDIT: Boulder just mentioned why ;) People do often report bad issues on cheaper DVD Medias AFTER! they labeled their disks. Thats something I would never do anymore, exept direct printing on the printable surface. Till spring last year I did label my disks so they look like a very good safe backup. And then the experiences: - Labeled using inkjetprinted labels, directly putted after outgoing of the inkjetprinter = after 2 Days ca. 80% SAP read failures!!! - Labeled using inkjetprinted labels, waiting 1 Day after prinitng so the lables are "desert" dry = after ca. 5 Days ca. 60% SAP read failures!!! - Labeled using Colorlasercopier Labels, dry printed by a CANON CLC 1130 = after ca. 2 Months ca. 40% SAP read failures!!! - NO labeling (or printing directly on the printing surface) = NO problems at all. So these paper-Labels seem to arch those Medias so the Laser can't focus the right points on the Media anymore. I did begin to put my old backups into warm water incl. a bit of dish liquid *and after 1 Day the old paper label did "fall" off ;) After drying and cleaning the Media surfaces I testet them again in the SAP and ..... probems solved! :) |
Also any "printable" discs don't appear to be as good as non-printable ones. This is not just my opinion but many others' as well.

Good to know, .... I have about 10surfaceprinted ones at home. Thats due I tried one of these Media direct printing devices .... but I wasnt shure if I gonna buy one.
Till that time all my backups are just burned on non-printable Medias. |
