If your player plays SVCD's, then it should play SKVCD's.
Try encoding a small sample, or download one of the SKVCD samples, and burn it.

Hi Jorel!

I’m from Brazil too, and also have a CCE... CCE-2500.
I gave-up trying to make it work with KVCDs (mpeg1), although it plays fine KVCDs at 352x240, but that don't satisfy me.

So the only alternative is to encode as MPEG2.
SKVCDs, as kwag told, works fine. KVCDx3_MPEG2 also works fine.
You can use all KVCD templates if you change it to MPEG2 and set 3:2 pulldown.

Personally, I love to load KVCDx3, change resolution to 480x480 and set the CQ_VBR ~20. It gives me about 70+ minutes (23.97fps-wildscreen) of near DVD quality movie! Well, at least seen with a Sony 34" (not HDTV).
If you need more minutes/cd or if your source is full-screen, then you can go for 352x480, or lower a bit more the CQ_VBR.
Play a little with the CQ values to adjust quality/size to yours needs.

There are some ways to make KVCDs (mpeg1) to work with this DVD:
(but I don't like them... :? )
1- You can encode at 29FPS, but encoding a 23,97FPS as 29FPS will NOT give you a smooth playback. If your source is already 29FPS (not telecined) then it’s ok.
2- You can encode as PAL, but the aspect ratio won't be correct (for a NTSC source).

Well, hope I could help.

Hi muaddib,

I am also from Brasil, Rio.

What is your suggestion for encoding video captured from Mini-DV ?

I would like to burn it on CD as VCD ( or SVCD ) with better quality than standard VCD template that comes with TMPGEnc.

Still, I would like to use settings that could guarantee as much compatibility as possible with standalone DVD player brands and models found here on Brasil ( I know SVCD compatibility is lower than VCD, and also, if I raise bitrate higher than 2300, I can have problems with some standalone DVD players ).

Do you use FitCD / Avisynth ( I had some problems with Kwag's templates and correct aspect ratio ). I am working on that issue.

About VCD menus and chapters, what software do you use ?
Which is the best on your opinion ? I need to have the chapter feature ( that eliminates some of them ) and would like to use kwag's templates ( that eliminates some others that don't accept non standards ).

Hey , if you want to e-mail me : luizcp at centroin.com.br

BTW, do you also live in Rio ?

Sorry for so many questions ( and maybe, off-topic ).

Hi Lula1!
I'm afraid I could not help you with Mini-DVs captures, cause I never did one.

Well, here I can only tell you my experience (that's not much).
I've only tried KVCDs with one DVD (mine  ), and I can tell you that I made lots of tests... but in the MPEG1 scene just the 352x240 templates worked. Any other resolution I have to encode as MPEG2 and set 3:2 pulldown. But doing that everything works great (even with bitrates much higher than 2300).

Yep... I always use FitCD / Avisynth to get the correct aspect ratio / resize. Feed TMPG with the AVS script and set the source aspect ratio to 4:3 display and the video arrage method to full screen (not keep aspect ratio, just full screen). This way I always get the correct AR.

To add chapters and menus, I use VCDEasy.
I used nero some time ago (to add menus) but I don't like the "pre-made" kind of nero's menu. And you can't add chapters with it.
VCDEasy is MUCH better. You can make the menu the way you want with an image editor (and generate mpeg stills), and then link the chapters with the chapters/interactivity options in VCDEasy. It's great!

VCDEasy could be a little dificult in the beginnig, but after you get used to it, it's really a great tool!
