Best Progressive Scan Player?
I'm trying to determine which replacement dvd player to purchase and would appreciate practical advice. Cost is less important than quality, but I would like to stay around $300. I have read numerous reviews, but end up more confused than informed.
Points to consider: Require progressive scan for HDTV playback. Adjustable aspect ratio (not included on all models). Zoom (for wide screen formats). No artifacts in 4:3 mode (a common problem noted in reviews). Good deinterfacing capability (a problem noted in reviews). Can be single or multiple disk machine. I wish to play DVD, SVCD, VCD and KVCD formats with the best quality output in both standard and HDTV modes. I would appreciate information from someone who has made an in depth study of available players. |
Get the Panasonic DVD -- CP72 (5-based changer)
Get the Panasonic DVD -- CP72 (5-Disk changer $199-$250 before a $30 rebate)
It has progressive scan and can play all the KVCD templates. In the manual it states that it cannot play SVCD but this isn't true. It plays SVCD and SKVCD. Plays: DVDs Video CDs CD-R CD-RW DVD-R DVD-RAM DVD-Audio probably DVD+R/+RW The only thing that is lacking is a zoom function but I have that on my HDTV. Over the past six months I have purchased and then returned about 6 DVD players. It looks like this one is a keeper! I love this player great progressive output and it is compatible with all the KVCD templates. |
Just like my Panasonic Portable DVD-L10, which doesn't even mention SVCD in the manual, but plays them fine
