green flashing screen on Toshiba 2800 and Technosonic

The KVCD templates at 352x240 work great on my Toshiba and Technosonic DVD players but I get the same strange display on both when I try 704x480, 480x480, 352x480: flashing green/pink screen. Now here is the interesting part.

On both, I get a proper display if I fast forward or rewind. Also, if I single frame advance every 4th frame is clear (24fps).

Any ideas on how to encode? (I think this problem can be solved.)

MrTibs,

Have you ever found a solution for your problem? I had the same and solved it by switching to MPEG-2 on a SAMSUNG-player.

No. I'm still trying to understand why this would be. I suspected that it was the sound but my testing hasn't realy helped determine anything. (There is no sound decoding while fast forwarding.)

I've also tried various muxing and re-muxing methods and different frame rates but still no luck.

I've looked at other DVD players but I like the Toshiba for its quality of playback and features so I'll stick with it.

My Mustek 520 (WinBond chipset - tried firmware 2.0 and 2.02) shows the same behaviour...

The Mustek 562 WinBond chipset shows the same behaviour...
but works fine in all resolutions with mpeg2.
Maybe it is couse mpeg1 does not support interlaced video.
If you whant to use mpeg1 in higher resolutions (why ever) you can use trick. The Green Frames are allways a 'B'-Frame.
Set the number of B-Frames to 0 and mpeg1 works fine.
but .. better use mpeg2 ;)
