What do you think makes my player not play KVCDs?

 Alright KWAG, I really appreciate all your help with this, but I tried everything there is, and it just doesn't work right.

I increased the Min. Bitrate from 300 up to 950, in CQ and MVBR, but the movie still jumps. I mean it got better the more i increased the Min. bitrate, but it still jumped every 10 seconds or so.

Ok now my questions:

What do you think makes my player not play KVCDs? It works fine with a constant Bitrate.

Could It be that my player just can't handle Variable Bitrates?

And If I use a constant Bitrate of let's say 1150 kb, would the filesize still be smaller than a movie encoded with the standard VCD Template?

Is there a difference between using CQ and an Equal Min/Max Bitrate and CB (Constant Bitrate) ?

I read somewhere that I should try to change the GOP structure, but that to me makes no sense, when the player plays the KVCDs with a Constant Bitrate.

Please Help If Anyone Can, I'm kinda dejected right now...

Hi Jellygoose:

I'm sorry to hear that
Maybe it's the VBR. Some players don't like MPEG-1 VBR.
There's one more thing you can try. That's re-muxing as SVCD with BBMPEG. If you haven't tried that already.

What about if you use the template, but change the output to 352x240(288). Will it play correctly at that resolution?

Hi kwag...

yes, i only use 576x288 (PAL), but it's not the resolution that does it... must be the VBR then I guess... I tried the SVCD Remuxing but my player does not support SVCDs...

Well what do you think? Is it still worth for me using your template? I mean is the file size still smaller when i use KVCD with CBR then the standard VCD template?

Or should I just get a new player? What player do you recommend for KVCDs ? I mean you're the man, you know what you're talking about!

Thanks again!

Jellygoose,

If you're going to get a new player, I can recommend the Sony NS-300 or the Panasonic RP-56. The panasonic has progressive output. That's the one I use on my HDTV with Component cables.

Try to ecnode with MPG2 instead of MPG1.
My pioneer DV-525 don't like VBR-MPG1. The sound gets choppy.
But with MPEG2 it play smoothly.
