KVCD on Apex AD-5131

Played with the kvcd templates for TMPGEnc and found that the burn was GREAT and works very well on the Apex AD-5131. Just thought I would share.

Didn't think this player could play KVCD 23.976 mpeg-1 but after reading your post I decided to give it another try and found that it does. I then tried it on my Apex AD500W and to my surprise it worked also. I do not understand why when I had tested both of these players in the past they would not do 23.976, I think it might have something to do wih min. bitrate. I have a funny feeling that KVCD at 23.976 will work on just about every standalone out there and many people are encoding at 29.97 needlessly. Both of my Apex players can do both mpeg-1 and
mpeg-2 at 720x480,704x480, 544x480,480x480,352x480 and 352x240 for both 23.976 and 29.97. However, if you read the compatibility chart you get a completely different story. I think that KVCD at its current incarnation is far more compatible than even Kwag realizes.

You're probably right Dano :D
Maybe the (0.57 * average) as MIN bitrate did fix more things than just prediction

@Kwag, isn't it a requirement for standalones that claim VCD compatibility to play 23.976? I know that vbr mpeg-1 and resolutions other than 352x240 is not VCD spec but I would think that it would not make any sense for manufacturers to intentionally disable this functionality.

It should :!:
Because it's part of the specifications. But that just shows how lowsy some manufacturers are
And I've seen some comments, that some DVD players don't play half D-1 DVDs, even though it's part of the DVD specifications.
