I tryed to order some capture devices : Pinnacle studio Deluxe , Hauppauge ...
Asked retailer if they are PAL compatible - for answer they advised to ask manufacturers .
Hauppauge Answered that all PVR devices in USA are NTSC only !!!
Pinnacle ewen not bothered to answer
Maybe you guys can help me solve this issue .
I'm interested to order from USA coz even with delivery its 40% cheaper for me .

For hauppauge with the PVR 250/350 the tuner's are NTSC only in the states. Though there are registry hacks to allow you to capture PAL through svideo/composite. I should add, i have not tried this. Check out on http://www.shspvr.com/ to see if anyone there can confirm this.

No idea about the other cards, but would imagine something similar.

Cheers,

Why don't you just use a video only card with a very good quality and get the tuner signal from a good vcr?
Sound can be captured via a good Mainboard sound device.

Nope!
It depends on the input signal, not the software.
If you would capture pal with a NTSC Card .. trash would come out. Cause of the Tuner device on the card which provides the "signal" to the digitzer. And thats why they do offer two diff. Versions of that card.

I did look at the pinnacle spec. of that studio deluxe.
In NTSC Version of that hardware you only can capture NTSC and put out NTSC signals to a maybe std. Tv for previewing. But thats IMHO a joke as there are ClassA reference Scrrens for real previewing : money, money, money.

To me it seems too expensive for your Needs or do you also want to connect Firewire hardware like digi-DV cams ?

I want to have all options opened : TV in , A / D camcorders, vcr and maybe some advanced video editing too .
You know I think hardware have to be the same coz there no sence that thay do have to different cards for PAL & NTSC .It must be just in installation or registry setup . I'm not very sure coz I'm no Pro in this , just filling .

I believe every BT878 card supports both PAL and NTSC plus lots of other stuff. I was even able to hack the sources of the driver to make it support "PAL-M 50" that my VCR outputs from PAL tapes. Normal PAL-M has 60 fields/second but a color code different from NTSC.

Actually I was only able to do that with my card because the source code of the driver is freely available, unlike most cards.

ATi cards will capture PAL, it's just undocumented. ADS USB Instant DVD 2.0 does NTSC and PAL.

Capturing audio on your mobo or internal card is a great way to pick up system noise, use an external encoder if quality matter to you.
