I have encountered this problem: I demux the MP3 audio from an avi file using VirtualDubMod and converted to MP2 by using besweet. But abour 30 seconds of the audio was last from the converted MP2 file. Thus it caused the video and audio out of syn.

Anybody know what was the cause?

Can you explain a little more "were lost" ?
Where ? at the beguining ? At the end ? Or do you mean the playing time is 30s shorter ?

Phil,

thank you for prompt response.

The converted MP2 file has about 30 seconds short. When played in MPC, I found it started about 30 seconds earlier than the original one in the avi file. So it shifted backward. so the first 30 seconds was "lost", I mean, missing from the MP2 file.

Is mp2, 30s shorter than the avi file?
And, than the demuxed mp3 file?
Did you extract audio with menu option file, save wav or with file, demux audio, in VirtualDubMod?

Your losted audio are dialogs or presentation?

Take a look at VirtualDubMod, File, File Information. How many audio streams have you?
If you have 2, maybe 1 for presentation (losted 30 seg) and 1 for the movie.

Listen to this MP3 : are the missing 30s there or not ?
Can you redo the operation in besweet and post the log file here ?

avi audio stream 1 (tag 0x0055, MPEG-1 Layer 3 [MP3]), Length:1:37:30.096.

The Mp3 was demuxed by vDubMod, but when I tried to add it back to the Stream List, vDubMod reported it "doesn't seem to be a valid Mpeg Audio file"

When I tried to play the MP3:

RealOne player says: MPEG by Bitcasting: File Format cannot find MPEG file header. This may not be an MPEG file.

Windows Media Player says: ClassFactory cannot supply requested class.

WinAmp3 plays it but with about 14 (I counted, not 30 in my previous estimation ) seconds short at the begining.

However, Besweet can convert the MP3 to MP2 and vDubMod can accept as: MPEG1-L2 Stero 44100Hz 128+/-0.1kbps. Length:01:37:16.304.

So now I guess something wrong with the "file head", Anyway I solved out-of-syn problem by letting TMPGenc encoder the audio together with the video.

The log file:

Okay, it seems that your MP3 really has a problem taht Besweet don't see and that doesn't even cause any trouble to tmpgenc !
So, just do it with tmpgenc and forget this problem
