why can't muxed subtitles be played on PC ?
I know that subtitles muxed into mpeg file are played only on standalones, and I have no problem with that (there was with position but I solved this out).
My question is, why they can't be played on PC. Is there any reason that sofware players can't play them? |
VCD/SVCD capable player handle subtitlres with no problem. WinDVD or PowerDVD for instance. Where did you read they can't ?

I think it was on "How to" by GRF, and in fact I can't watch them on PowerDVD :(
EDIT: This is the link. Scroll to the very end. |
Hi guys,
In fact I backup Hydeus on this one because I've seen this written all over the web too. Search for it here at kvcd or at vcdhelp or other sites and you'll see you'll find it too. And the problem is that WinDVD & PowerDVD don't show these subs at all when I try. So I never thought these were supposed to show subs because I had already read that it was impossible, for either svcd or dvd. So tell us about your subs experience, Phil. Should we be able to see those subs or only the hard encoded ones with vobsub? Cheers |
I will retest this because for the moment I'm not sure. I didn't do selectable subtitles on my SVCD because my standalone do not support them. So my memories are on test I did years ago.
I'll tell you. |
Isn't it something to do with, you can't have Subtitles AND PBC on at the same time :?
|
So we have nothing new. Subtitles are PC-unwatchable. :? Sad
|
Hi Hydeus,
As far as I am aware, you're right. In fact those days I didn't tested it much as SO MANY people was saying that it couldn't be done. I'm over the SVCD era now that I moved to KDVD where we have switchable subs. Haven't you done the same, yet? Cheers |
Post me some simple how2. I'm now at SVCD resolution cause fullDVD res is too much bitrate hungry :) So try to keep that in mind. Thx :)
|
Ok. Vmesquita may found something here (and wrong placed ;) ). I have not tested this feature yet.

Try to use BS PLAYER to view the subtitles
