the avi has got the subtitle.

when i use the avs script and encode the avi
in tmpg the mpeg does not have the subtitle .

when i encode the avi in tmpeg the ordinary way the subtitle
is present.

just finished encoding the avi in tmpg with plain vanilla kvcd template.

no avs script. mpg was very jerky after muxing. so searched

forum. found the recommended settings of sansgrip. muxed again

and voila. 700 mb mpg. with subtitles. no jerks. no delayed seek.

but i would still like to know what is the RIGHT way to add subtitles

from avi to kvcd. coz i want change the way it looks. thnks

When do you plan to explain HOW this subtitles are provided with your avi ? There is a dozen of method to have subtitles in avis !

There is not. You do'nt even know if the subtitles are in a separate file or in the avi ?

ok i have got just the avi

there is no separate subtitle file

the subtitle is appearing in a black band
below the picture

Either the file is an ogm container and not an avi or the subtitles are actually into the picture and there is nothing to do to have them on Tmpgenc !

Can you open the file in virtualdbmod and verify in the "stream list" window if the avi embbed a subtitle stream ?

If the subs are in the black borders of the avi, it could be that you crop those borders in your avs script and then add new borders later in your script..??

Yes,
It seems like the avi has hardcoded subtitles on the bottom black band.
When you crop the boarders with a script, the subs are gone right?
If so there are only 2 ways:
Either you try an OCR program like subrip (which I think only works with
VOB/IFO but could be mistaken).
Or you try to find a file with the subs in text mode and use TextSub by Gabest to hardencode
them again after you crop with the script.
Please note that I'm note sure if you are legally entitled to download a subtitle
text file for your movie...
Maybe Phil or one of the guys knows that better than me.
Also I'm presuming that you are talking about an holywood movie otherwise you won't
find a subtitle text file anywhere.

Two things : either the movie is out of copyright, and so is the subtitles. Or the film is a commercial one so it doesn't matter if it's legal to use the subtitles or not ;-)

ok the problem is bcoz of the grip filter.



the resln of the avi is 512x384

in tmpg without using any of grip lines in avs size is 512x384. the subtitles appear.

after using gripcrop frame size is 352x240. the picture is centered without the subtitles.

i did not use any templates for this test

BTW should the gripcrop and gripsize not be used immediately after the avisource command.

No.

The first 3 filters are there to reduce/remove the DCT block of the source and they can't work if the geometry of the image have been changed.
And in a general way, the idea of "small picture = faster encoding" is rarely the good way. fast encoding, okay, but uglier result also.
Generally the place of each line in an optimal script was tested and disccused a lot before the script is released (even if that do not prevent you to make your own tests for sure).
