Will VirtualDub be affected by screensaver?
Hello,
I am planning to buy a new monitor for VHS capture, and was wondering if enabling a screensaver would result in dropped frames and whatnot. My computer is pretty powerful with 24 GB of RAM and an i7 processor (I am in the process of building a much more powerful computer). |
Disable screen saver and disable sleep mode before starting your capture. It is best practice to keep your monitor on so that you can watch your capture. If you don't want to watch turn off your monitor but make sure the screen saver is disabled.

Screensaver will likely drop frames, and possibly even crash/BSOD the system.
Screensaver = off. "screen saver" is a misnomer anyway. If you really want to save the screen, turn if off! :P No sleep, no hibernate. (Good call JP, almost forgot those.) No internet, no programs "doing stuff" on their own, in the background. No watching videos, playing games. Video is mono-tasking, and it does not matter how "powerful" the computer is. ("Powerful" gets quaint every few years. Search this forum's older posts, and you'll see talk of "powerful" P4 3ghz systems with 2gb RAM! And yes, you could capture just fine on those systems.) |
