What security junk in Windows XP SP3 should be disabled?

Hi all, I searched the forum but didn't find this answer.

If using Windows XP SP3 on a video capture computer, what are all of the default "security junk" features that need to be disabled/turned off?

Many thanks for your response(s)!

If you're connected to the internet I would leave it l on.

XP is very exploitable, and is used as a vector for various very nasty activities.

If it's a standalone machine not connected to anything disable everything if you want.

XP is now 'prehistoric' and can be exploited for many attacks, even if the user isn't aware.

Of course it's all relative in terms of chances etc, but if you're connected to the internet it's probably good form to leave it switched on.

In 2022 the best thing to do is probably not make an XP machine internet facing.

You want to disable services, uninstall software, and disable/delete Windows addon non-core/non-essential components. You can literally compare the SP2 vs. SP3 changelog to see what needs to be dumped. But beyond that, everything from remote access to printers. None of it is needed, and may just poll the system during a capture, aka drop frames.

The unofficial/community Integral Edition already did that, hence why it's suggested. That and adding new updates and backports, to expand XP to the max potential.

Correct, never connect XP online. That was a 2000s OS, and it's now the 2020s. It's legacy, video capture tasks only.

The Integral Edition actually attempts making internet still work, with minimal safeguards. But it's like trying to use a pre-smart phone for 3G web access.

The security junk is a decade+ out of date now, 100% worthless.

You can probably use the barebones settings. There's also guides for Win 2000 to Win 10. No Win 11 yet.

I've been using these tweaks for years and highly recommend the site.
