Building a pc

I know this doesn't belong on this kind of Q&A board,
but if you had the chance to build your ulimate pc for audio and video reproduction, what component's would you buy, and why?

Remember......your building from scratch, and keep the cost civilized!

A bunch of this is sale price ranged. I shop at Fry's and MicroCenter a lot.

My suggestion:
Intel P4 (+HT nice, but any will do) with Intel motherboard $150-500
Supercooled case $60-75
Case/CPU Fans $50-60
Supercool airpass IDE/floppy cables $50
Floppy drive $15
DDR RAM 512MB $60-200 (actually prefer 1GB 1066 RDRAM for $800-1000)
RAM heat spreaders $20 (not needed for RDRAM, just DDR)
ATX 500W power supply $100
60-80 GB hard drive (C: for OS/software) $30-60
200 GB hard drive with UltraATA card (D: for captures) $80-200
Pioneer DVD burner $100-200
Pioneer DVD-ROM $50-75
Matrox RT2500 (used from eBay) $300-600
or Matrox RTX100 $900-1100
or ATI All In Wonder 9000 PRO $100-175
or ATI All In Wonder 9800 $300-400
if Matrox then add $50-300 for regular ATI graphics card
SoundBlaster card (any) $25-100

TOTAL COST $1150-2600
Matrox RT2500 is card picked for total.
With RDRAM option, cost now $2050-3500

Budget option:
Intel Celeron with ECS/VIA motherboard $60-90
Case $25-40
Case/CPU Fans $40
Standard IDE/floppy cables $5
Floppy drive $15
DDR RAM 256MB $30
ATX 400W power supply $50
120GB hard drive $50-100
BTC DVD burner $50-90
ATI All In Wonder 7000/8000/VE PCI/AGP card $40-100
SoundBlaster card $25

TOTAL COST: $400-600

Some of this is self explanatory: more power, more cooling. Bigger CPU, better RAM, more stable motherboard. The Matrox card choice is for highly advanced editing and advanced conversion. The ATI is the step down from it. Pioneer makes better DVD drives, period. I have 512 MB RDRAM ... you'd understand if you had it, and could never go back to mere SD or DDR.

My current primary system:
Intel P4 1.8 with Intel motherboard
Standard case
4 case fans, CPU fan, PCI exhaust fan
Supercool airpass IDE/floppy cables
Floppy drive
RDRAM 512MB
RAM heat spreaders (part of RDRAM chips)
ATX 500W power supply
80 GB hard drive (C: for OS/software)
100 GB hard drive with UltraATA card (D: for edit projects)
180 GB hard drive (E: for capture)
200 GB hard drive (F: for current conversion work)
Pioneer 105 DVD burner
Pioneer 120 DVD-ROM
ATI All In Wonder 7200 AGP
SoundBlaster 5.1 live card
Firewire card
Linksys NIC
=> Next upgrades (no set date) include Matrox RT2500 card, one more 200-250GB hard drive, and a faster ATI Radeon graphics card.

My current secondary system:
Intel Celeron 1.7 with VIA/Shuttle motherboard
Standard case
4 case fans, CPU fan, PCI exhaust fan
Supercool airpass IDE/floppy cables
Floppy drive
DDR RAM 512MB
RAM heat spreaders
ATX 500W power supply
80 GB hard drive (C: for OS/software)
120 GB hard drive (D: for current conversion work)
BTC 1004 DVD burner
Pioneer 116 DVD-ROM
ATI All In Wonder 7200 PCI
SoundBlaster PCI card
Linksys NIC
=> Next upgrades (no set date) include P4 CPU and new motherboard. An AGP video card (probably taken from primary), an expansion card added with two larger hard drive (200GB+ each).
