Antivirus/Malware software suggestions for 2014?

My Kaspersky Antivirus license has expired and before renewing it, I would like to know if I need it at all.

I have SuperAntiSpyware, Malware Bytes, Microsoft Security Essentials, CCleaner, Comodo firewall (all free).

Are the free ones sufficient without buying/renewing antivirus?
Do I have to 'buy' the Pro version of SAS which is listed at $9.95?
or Do I renew the Kaspersky just in case?

Thanks for your help.

Microsoft security essentials
that coupled with using Firefox as a browser and staying off dodgy websites and you will have zero problems

all the payware anti virus' are crapola resource hogs - Norton being the worst

It really depends on the exact Windows OS being used.

I have different suggestions for:
- Windows 8
- Windows 7 / Vista
- Windows XP
- Windows Server 2003
- Windows Server 2008 / 2008 R2

Some is commercial, some is free.

Most need SEVERAL programs, not just one!

I have 2 machines, one using Windows XP and the other one using Windows 7 Home Basic.

I have SuperAntiSpyware, Malware Bytes, Microsoft Security Essentials, Spybot Search & Destroy, Comodo Firewall, CCleaner. As you know, all are free. My current Kaspersky license has expired and I have not yet renewed it.

Also, based on advice found on DFAQ, I stopped using Adobe Reader and started using Foxit Reader for PDF documents.

Thanks.

I use Nod32 and Malware Bytes. I think it's enough. I haven't any serious virus problems for the long time.

Don't mean to bump this thread as it hasn't been active in a long time, but as a long time user of Fortinet products, I'd have to recommend the FortiClient.

Fortinet provides enterprise grade security solutions - firewalls, web filters, VPN's etc....some of the best in the industry.

The topic is security software is never old. :)

I'm always wary of sites that advertise products, then don't show prices -- instead asking you to submit details (name, phone number, email, etc). I can't stand salesman, or spam, and then is like merging them together! What are they hiding? (A big price tag I would imagine!)

What are you paying, and what are you using?

The FortiClient "lite" is free for end user use. http://www.forticlient.com/

Where the price comes is is for end point management from a Fortigate firewall.

I've personally been using Fortinet products for years, from their workstation AV products to enterprise firewalls - FGT80CM, FGT200A / FGT100D etc. (rack mount firewall appliances)
