VLC doesn't play ripped ISO properly, it does play IFO

I use DVD Decrypter to back-up my purchased DVDs to my hard drive, after reading your guide. So far it has worked fine; VLC plays the ISOs as if they were actual DVDs, complete with menus (although there are occasional bugs; audio and subtitle menus need to be "revisited" in order to display text)

But this one DVD gave me problems at first. The playback of the ripped ISO shows the menu for a split second, but the menu disappears before I can click on it. It then starts the video, which is not really navigable. Arrow keys don't work properly, and mouse clicks on the video progress bar lead to sections with missing audio.

I then re-ripped using Mode -> IFO
The result was that more than half the DVD was not ripped. The ripping lasted only 3 minutes instead of 18-20.

I ripped it a third time using Mode -> File
This created a bunch of files. But most importantly, it created a VIDEO_TS.IFO file that, when opened in VLC, brought up the title menu, which was working fine (clickable). The chapters (TV show episodes) seem to be working correctly; mouse and arrows do work.

The DVD is a part of a book that was re-printed in 2016. So it is a recent DVD. Do you think that is the reason it evades perfect ISO ripping?
