Problems with VOB blanker

Hi,

I'm trying to create a backup copy of a DVD using VOB Blanker (It is too large to fit on 1 DVD-R with DVD Decryptor and someone suggested VOB Blaner to split it to fit on 2 DVD-Rs) and keep getting an error message. I was hoping someone could help me out with it.

Here is my log file. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I'm going to refer this to somebody who knows this program very well. He should reply soon. Thanks.

though i have never used vobblanker, i can try and give you some pointers.

by and large, getting that error means that you haven't decrypted / ripped the movie properly. at least as far as vobblanker is concerned.

vobblanker needs unencrypted data.
it may seem to work because IFOs and BUPs are unencrypted, so it "loads" the movie.
but then it will fail to process the VOBs because those could still be encrypted.

so if dvd decryptor really could not rip the dvd properly, then i suggest using newer software.
perhaps dvdfab. perhaps anydvd.

dvdfab can then be used to split the movie.

perhaps this is a problem with ARCCOS protection.
it could be that dvd decryptor cannot handle this protection adequately.

again, perhaps the use of dvdfab or anydvd is the answer.

i hope this gives you some sort of pointer to your problem.

I totally missed that, on my first read. Yes, definitely be sure the DVD is already on the computer hard drive. If it's a commercial DVD that's being backed up for whatever reason, then it may need to be ripped with a tool like DVD Decrypter, or DVDFab 6 (in free rip mode).

Have you considered avoiding the messy split scenario entirely, and simply using a Verbatim DVD+R DL disc to make your copy?

Thanks. I tried DVD Decryptor with this disk and but the file it created was too big to put on a single disk.

Yes, I had the DVD in the D:\ drive and VOB Blanker was using the Video_TS\Video_TS.IFO file.

I can try and use DVD Decryptor again and then point VOB blanker to the file it creates or copy the Video_TS folder to the hard drive. Will one of those work?

Thanks again.

I am unable to copy the VOB files to the hard drive. I can try and use DVD Decryptor again and then point VOB blanker to the file it creates. I think it created a small .MDS file and a very large .ISO file (7,800,000 KB.) Will that work?

Thanks again

If you have a large ISO file, then it means you ripped the disc in ISO mode instead of FILE mode.

You could work with the ISO file if you were to install a free virtual drive software, and then mount the ISO as a virtual drive --- but it might just being easier to re-rip the DVD in DVD Decrypter, using FILE mode. (It's in the MODE menu at the top of the program.)

read this link, specifically the "FILE MODE" section: http://www.doom9.org/index.html?/dvddec.htm

hopefully that will solve your ripping issue.

Thanks. I was able to decrypt the disc in the file mode. My next step is to burn it onto 2 DVD-Rs. Can I still use DVD-Decryptor to do this or VOB Blanker. I think I can get it to work with VOB blanker butwhen I try to process it I get a message telling me to check output folder when I set it to D:\

I must be missing some step.

I got it to work. Vob Blanker will split a DVD but won't burn. I used Imgburn to burn it to 2 DVD-Rs

Thanks for your help!
